I'm looking at buying a vortex 1-4 x scope and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the viper and the razor??? What I'm wondering is; is it worth the extra $600 for the razor or should I just save my $$$ and go with $600 viper? Please help :)

Re: Vortex scope question

For just plinking I'd have a hard time spending that kind of money. If you can afford it, but the PST is a pretty good scope for the money. If I were using the scope for serious comeptition or work, I may be inclined to spend the extra money.

Re: Vortex scope question

Tried 1-4 Razor in IWA, Germany about week ago.

Must say that I was really dissapointed. Massive tunnel effect at 1x, one of the the worst I have seen in 1-4 or 1-6 scopes including chinese cheapos. I was even able to see ocular tube inner surface.

Finishing and lenses seemed to be good or very good. Turrets were really, really stiff and mushy, hard to adjust.

Other Razors were much better.

I´d take a look on new SWFA 1-4 scope, looks really promising and doesent cost arm and leg. Topic w/pics is somewhere on SH.
Im currently using Burris XTR on AR15, and basically it is ok.
POI shifts when zooming, reticle dimensions are not exactly right, reticle focus ring is there just for show, and finishing leaves room for improvements.
But FOV is still good which I find very important feature.

Re: Vortex scope question

I've used both the 1-4X20 PST and the 1-4X20 Razor. I liked the PST more than the Razor, especially the reticle. The FFP of the Razor at low power doesn't seem quite as useful as 1X of the PST.
