I have a family member who cannot use aimpoints due to having astigmatism. For a HD rifle a lpvo is not ideal, but I have read elsewhere that the vortex spitfire can work. Anyone have one? They almost seem too cheap to be something that is reliable, but I am open to see if it works.

Can’t help you on the spitfire, but when comparing RDS side by side at my local store I had trouble with some trijicon, sig, and vortex RDSs, but the Holosuns with the circle dot reticle seemed to work well for me, even with my astigmatism. I don’t own one yet, but if your family member could test one out it might work if you’d like to stick with a RDS. Some people with astigmatisms have luck with holographic sights as well. I might be preaching to the choir, but hope that helps.

I had one and sold it, they say that an "etched" reticle is not affected by your astigmatism. However I found that the Vortex wasn't that clear even with the etched reticle and my astigmatism, it does depend on how bad you eyes are. That said, I went with the Holosun 510, and I'm still evaluating it.

I should also add, at hd/cbq distances a Starburst of a rds isn't going to have a negative impact when using to aim provided you apply the fundamentals. Put the weird red light high upper mass, safety off, and hit the giggle switch.

I appreciate any feedback. I don't really know anything about holosuns. Do you know what models are better for your eyes?
Sorry, I’m not sure. I think I looked through a number of different Holosun models and it seemed to be pretty consistent, but can’t say for sure. I was looking at the 507c v2 for my Glock MOS and it worked well, though probably not ideal for HD rifle.

Circle dot reticles will look a little less distorted if you have astigmatism, especially amber color, but ultimately a prismatic 1x scope might be your best bet.

If you want to try a red dot with high collimation quality, Leica Tempus and Crimson Trace CTS-1400 look very good to me, astigmatism and all. Mine is not very sever though.

I have had good luck with prismatic sights and astigmatism. I have used the spitfires and the Burris 1x and 3x prisms. They have worked well. Red dots don’t work at all for me. Just crazed red blurs.

I'm going to second the HoloSun suggestion.

I've got an astigmatism and my RMR's are blurry but all my Holosun red dots are much clearer for me.

Before Holosuns I did try some etched reticle prism scopes (PA 3x, Vortex) and while they did work they just weren't the same. I much prefer the Holosuns.

I have astigmatisms and cant use red dots. My PA cyclops prismatic is perfect. No issue at all. I am only using prism optics vs red dots. All other weapons have scopes.

I was going to go with an Aimpoint PRO but compared it to a Vortex Strikefire for < 1/2 the cost and wound up going with the Spitfire because the RD's seemed very Power/Flare sensitive (to my eyes) as compared to the etched ret. Spitfire 3X Prism...and the glass on mine is surprisingly clear...even when the sun ain't up.
