Hey guys, after 3 new NFs in the last year I'm burnt. So I'm looking for a relatively cheaper scope that's still good.

I ran across the Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44 or 50 for $300-400ish (the price point I want to be at). However, I noticed that the elevation while having a total of 68MOA was hashed at 12MOA per revolution (WTF is that?). 68MOA is more than I need for the gun it's going on so that's OK. The retical doesn't really matter to me either as the hashed reticals are only accurate at full power (20).

So is the glass OK (not looking for perfect)? Do they tend to be strong long lasting or are they going to fall apart on me a week into use? It would be used on an AR type hunting rig.

Any and all thoughts are welcome!

Re: Vortex Viper (NOT PST) questions???

I have the 6.5-20x44 BDC on a 22-250, I love it. I can almost guarantee it wont fall apart under any circumstances. It is built very well, you can tell just by looking at it. One piece tube, seems thick (has some weight to it).

The glass is excellent for the price point, if I rated my Razor a 9, the Viper would be a 6 or 7, with my old Falcon Menace being a 4.

Never even payed attention to the moa per revolution, as its not a tactical rig, and with the 22-250 it shoots almost flat to its useful range anyway, so I rarely adjust.

I dont think you will be one bit dissapointed if you end up with one, I really wish I couldve snagged one of the Target dot models when they were clearanced out dirt cheap.

Thanks for the info. what was good about the target dot over the BDC or crosshair?

Oh OK thanks! I saw the dot but the dot looked thicker than the duplex crosshairs. Do the clicks feel solid? And is the magnification ring solid feeling?

Re: Vortex Viper (NOT PST) questions???

I own three Vipers. All function admirably, have never failed to return to zero, accurately track with much spinning of turrets and they feel fine.
It is not a tactical scope, so don't expect $2K+ feel and you will be quite happy with the scope. I know that I am. One of the best values available presently in my book.

Re: Vortex Viper (NOT PST) questions???

I also own a viper, but just the 2x7x32 model. Great little scope for the money. I use it mainly on my .22. Has worked flawlessly. Tracking works well, clicks are audible and tactile. Glass has been great, but I'm not looking out long distances, but it is clear and more than acceptable on my .22

Vortex's warranty and customer service is second to none. I wouldn't have any worries there. I haven't had any problems with my scope and it is a discontinued model. If a problem ever should arise, I'm sure Vortex would fix it if they could or upgrade me as I've heard done for other folks. Vortex is GTG!

For what it's worth, Vortex says the vipers are tested to take the punishment of a 50 cal. - good enough for what my rifles dish out.
