I would love to be able to buy the Magnum base a .308 kit (barrel, bolt, magazine). This would give me the option to upgrade the to 338 later (maybe Dec or a year from now). EuroOptic seems to hint that this might be possible:
Accuracy International AX Magnum Black Base Build for sale!

Today, If I want a AXMC Magnum, I need to buy the 338 Lapua one and wait until the .308 kit appears on the scene. But by then I've spent a boatload of dough.

When I investigated it 2-3 months ago, I heard that the Magnum .308 kit was going to MAYBE be available during XMas time. No official word.

I'm ready for AI to take my money... Sell me a AXMC Magnum base with a .308 kit.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait...

If given the choice to spend $17k to have it now and wait until December to have what I want for ~half the cost. I suppose I choose to wait. :(

Maybe when the AX338MC has the .308 option, the PSRs will start to drop in price.

You can get a MRAD with .338, .300WM, and .308 W for about 9k from europtic. With the MRAD you do need a torque wrench to change barrels.

If you consider the time schedule AI works on, I would think the wait will be a lot longer than December for any of the PSR kits to trickle down to the AXMC models.

As long as they still have PSR Deployment Kits available it would be silly to sell the parts to work with a AXMC.

You asked for a solution, and it's there... if you're gonna haggle on the price then you really didn't want it, my guess for the bolts, barrels, inserts, 2016.

Wow, then maybe best to get a AX308MC today, enjoy the heck out that and then in 2016, sell it. Use the proceeds for a AX338MC with a .308 kit. Maybe then I'm into going .338.

Though I resent AI stating at the the SHOT show and on their website, sales material, and press that the AX338MC can easily switch calibers down to .308. Yea, if you can wait until 2016. That is just disingenuous.

it is kinda like buying a Ferrari, you order the one you want then by a used one till yours arrives 18-24 months later at which time you sell the used one.
Basically if you cannot get what you like, you better like whatever you can get.

cheers.

Not even in the same universe as the AI.
Why is that? I do not want to disparage the AI, I do not own one, I have never shot one, or even touched one in person. I am not going to call the MRAD a perfect rifle, but over all I am fairly happy with mine. It shots well under MOA for me and I do not describe myself as any kind of expert marksman. In your personal experience exactly what puts the AI PSR in a different universe?

I read about the accuracy of AI rifles, but I was surprised to see that the PSR can shoot .25 to .30 inch groups from a bench with factory ammo consistently.

The rifle itself is built like a tank. I have not run mine particularly hard, but dust and grit seem to have no effect on the action.

I wanted a multi caliber, accurate and utterly reliable rifle and I didn't want to wait for it.

The ability to get a box, with in effect, four match grade rifles in .338, .300 Win, .308 and .260 with Schmidt Bender optics for less than $5,000 per rifle without waiting puts it in a different universe.

I wanted to clear something up from another thread from the horse's mouth:

FYI,
The conversion kits for conversion of the AXMC to .308 are available and our distributors have pricing.

Yes! This is what I want as well. It's good to read that the idea of just being able to buy the base + .308 kit isn't completely out of the picture. (Un)Fortunately, current finances mean I'll have to wait anyway (to save up enough funds to pick it up).
