Was it justified for this guy to use deadly force?

Funny thing is it looks like he hit him in the sides of the neck every time, so it wasn't even like he was punching him in the face or head

(I say that knowing the irony, with my neck/spine issues, one of those a quarter as hard would have put me on the floor)

The laws that put a use of lethal force into a self defense category is very defined and strict in most places. The person using lethal force has to:

1. NOT have provoked or further instigated the attack. Even if the shooter had told the aggressor "suck my dick" or "that's what your mom said last night" right before the 'aggressor' attacked, THAT would be ruled as provocation by many DAs.

2. Be in legitimate fear of his life facing assault from one or multiple assailants. AKA being attacked in an unprovoked fashion. Anything else would be regarded as a mutual fight, or "citizens in dispute" in LE and legal speak.

That dude failed to meet any of the above two...

Carrying a potentially lethal weapon like a gun or knife carries with it EXTREME responsibilities. Most responsible weapon owners say that even though in the past they might have been quite confrontational and aggressive, once they started carrying their weapon, it calmed and cooled them down A LOT from any past hot-headedness and they are now far less likely to get involved in fights or altercations BECAUSE of the responsibility that goes into carrying that weapon.

Generally speaking you cannot provoke or threaten another person & then claim self defense.
I think this shooting was similar. I believe what got the old guy acquitted was the fact that he was 71 and said he was in fear of his life. I was torn on this one though. I mean does a person deserve being shot for tossing a box of popcorn in someone's face?

Guy was a complete asshole and should've done some time in prison but got off because he was old/retired cop/good lawyer.

You have to look at it from his point of view. He’s 71 and has been in numerous fight. He knows that the popcorn is a distraction and a fist to the face will follow. Is he in legit fear of gbi? Do you want him to take a fist to the face before he can defend himself?

No one deserves being shot over popcorn being thrown at them.

My takes...

The dead guys criminal history has been suppressed. You can guarantee that.

The old cop may have brandished to get him to back off and had an ND. Being a retired cop he realized he had no chance so he just went with "felt threatened".

Stupid stupid BS. It was during the previews...Who fucking cares...You need to call and check on the toddler? That's mommas job. She could could give 2 shits about the Lone Survivor movie anyhow. My guess since all this occurred, they hadn't been away from the kiddo that long. guy was playing on his phone.

Dead guy was a dumbass. Was it worth it? Prove your point?

Retired cop is a dumbass. Getting to that level of crap? Just fucking get up and move. Theater looked half empty. You proved your point.

Bottom line? Don't fucking start shit with an old man. Wrong, right or indifferent. They may just kill you if you throw popcorn at them.

I bet they convict the old man if nothing else comes out.

At the end of the day you just gotta let these things go.
As someone mentioned above, I've gotten a lot more careful since I got a CCW. Stuff I would have flipped someone off over I now just try to get the fuck away form. Just not worth a confrontation over dumb shit.

In Florida, you cannot carry in a bar or that portion of a restaurant dedicated solely to alcohol (i.e. the bar area). Nonetheless, I'd think he would be screwed anyway, even if it wasn't a bar. He (shooter) body shoved the guy,. The guy slapped him. But then he (slapper) turned and walked away. Unless that same guy could be seen coming back on him (shooter) for another slap (or worse), the threat is over. I don't believe I could shoot unless he were coming back at me with more.

Listening to his lawyer, he needs to be locked away for his own safety.

That evil old guy got off thanks to a bunch of stupid old "worship the badge" senile jury members.

The stupid old guy was pissy that someone was talking during the stupid previews for the movie and that's what he killed someone over.

Make no mistake the old guy wanted to murder someone and was looking for an excuse.

I hope his last days are spent in one of those horror level nursing homes being horrifically abused by the staff when he can't help himself or tell anyone about it.

That would be proper justice for him.

Or somebody taking a baseball bat to him and his wife...

Why does blood sacrifice of the innocent appeal to you? WTF is your problem?
My wife lives in a skilled nursing facility. So, when you wish that kind of abuse and neglect, you are wishing it on others who had nothing to do with his crime or guilt.

Then you add to it that his wife needs a beating.

I don't think I can respect anything you have to say, ever again. No, I won't block. But OMG, I think you have something that needs addressing.

I think you might not have read my statement properly.
I was specifically saying that proper justice would be the guy who did the killing, getting badly abused by others eventually.

That is more than fair justice and might even give him a chance to maybe think about repenting for the evil he did to others, now that evil is being visited on his own head.

You obviously haven't read your Old Testament much...

The old evil guy killed the man and injured that other man's wife fairly badly.

Old Testament rules aren't pretty...

But since you want to say how moral you feel about not liking that, let me ask you, how much do you care for all the brown skinned people that your tax money helped kill for two decades because, someone somewhere with a similar religion from a country of our "buddies" did something bad to us?
Our country has litterally been on a two decade long rampage of vengeance killing people who had no dealings with us, purely in revenge and anger, might as well kill someone seems to be the deal. We don't even count or bother thinking about how many innocent men, women and children our government kills, just so long as they are of a different skin colour and the "wrong" religion.

Folks act like they are all high and mighty and moral and don't want blood vengeance.
Then they turn around and bay and beg and demand some uniform hangers go on wholesale murder rampages and killing to get "revenge".
If it's moral for you to ask some "government" to do something, then it's moral for you to do it yourself.
If it's not moral for you to do something yourself, then it's not moral for some "government to do it".

Folks don't think the Old Testament be like it was, but look around you today and humans aren't much different than they were some three thousand or more years ago.

Usually I respect your posts but youre way the fuck off here.

The NEW testament brought a NEW way of behaving. Its a testament of mercy and forgiveness.

One I often fail to live up to but never the less, thats what it is. And what ever you do outside of that you are accountable for.

Just think, had the guy not been playing on his phone nor had he thrown popcorn into a stranger’s face then he would be alive today.

Did he deserve to die for it? Dunno or care to be honest.

There are many trains of thought on bringing people that do wrong to you or others to proper justice.

Outside a few fringe folks, everybody following either the Old Testament, the New Testament or both, have eventually understood that it can be considered righteous to deal with evil folks in ways that are often violent or otherwise unkind.

But hey if you want to try to call me out for fun, how about you go take that and copy / paste that in reply to everyone on here who wants to do very bad things to folks that are attracted to children... See how much sympathy you get for your interpretation...

There is also a big difference between someone that does you wrong and is very sorry, repents, asks for forgiveness and tries to make amends, and someone who is all proud of what they did to you and has no remorse.

There are limits to the mercy you must show others.

But hey if you don't agree with me, no problem, I'll send you thread links to every time someone on here talks about wanting to do brutal things to MAP folks, and everyone cheering them on. Let's see how long you stick to your stance...

OP video- Bad shoot.

Old man video- Also bad shoot.

Regarding other points- There is only one God and he is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Same could be said of the guy that couldn’t bear a phone out during the previews and couldn’t let it go after confronting the perpetrator and going to the manager 😂. Feed the CPT to gen pop in a timely manner and I think a lot of people would grin. FAFO

The Laws have not changed, only the path to (edit: either fulfillment or) forgiveness with honest repentance.

Rape and murder (with exception of killing in defense or warfare related) are not forgivable until one is out of their flesh suit and in front of the Judge.

Sure, slow to anger and keep peace with all men, if possible. But there most certainlty are bookends on mercy. If there weren't in this world, there would be no Christians.

Now yore just being a jerk, one who clearly doesnt understand the message of the New Testament. Thats oK, live in your ignorance.

I will give you credit for the part in red, but thats about as far as it goes. Its not how I feel or react and I often feel and act wrongly. Its about that the living Christ said, and you clearly dont have a clue. You pick and choose what you want to justify your ignorance, but that doesnt make yo right, jsut deceived.

Beyond that Im done with this.
