Re: We lost another brother last night
While I knew the officer, it was only in passing. We didn’t work the same shift or district. You really couldn't even say we were friends but, I would have been honored to call him as much. He was a very squared away guy, same as his brother is. They were/are LEO's 24/7/365. The Shreveport Police Department truly lost a good one.
What gets me is this, once stopped, the suspect exited the vehicle with pistol in hand before placing it on the ground and surrendering. When an LEO is in a situation such as the officers that made the traffic stop were, the window to react is open for only a very small moment. You have to be on top of your game to take advantage of an opportunity like they had.
Like an old school LEO told me once, while in uniform, if a person you don’t know enters your personal space, you have to have a plan in place to kill him if need be.
Situational awareness and mental preparedness aren’t just buzz words. If you’re an LEO reading this, they’re words to live by.
It wasnt the suspects night to check out is all I can say.
