I recently reconnected with some old platoon mates. We were trading photos and this one came up. I thought it was funny first because of the Starlight Scopes, and second because I don't look old enough to drive.

Check...I came in in 90' and have the same types of pics. Don't look old enough to drive much less carry a gun for a living.

You get quite a bit more mileage than I do. The elastic wears out in mine after a couple years.

Hey LoneWolf, you should have asked if they had a bigger scope to give you.
I haven't looked at my old Navy pics in over 10 years. I'll have to dig them out and see what I looked like. I can't imagine myself being anymore beautiful than I am today.

The biggest impression from the PVS-4 was the fact that if you didn't keep a good hold on it, the rifle wanted to flip over because the damn scope was so heavy. That and the fact the mount absolutely sucked ass.

Was that considered Gen 1? Or was that pre gen 1? That was some Vietnams era shit, wasn't it?

The ANPVS-4 was gen 2 and a complete piece of crap. When it was mounted on a SMAW or M60 it would "white out" when you were firing.

On a well moon-lit night you are better off shooting with ironsights instead of using the PVS-4s. It's like trying to discern a target picture from a fuzzy black and white TV that is mostly out of reception (or were those things green and black, it's been almost a decade since I used one last).
