hey guys, i just purchased a weatherby accumark 300 wthrby off a older gentleman that fired maybe a box through, the deal was to good to pass up. has anyone ever shot this rifle? i was wondering how the accuracy was, i noticed online its one of weatherbys most expensive models but only gives you a 1 1/2 group at 100yds. any input would be great.

Re: weatherby accumark??

I had one in 30-378 and it was a great rifle. Not the accuracy of a custom, but it was a MOA gun for sure, all the way out to 1k with 208 AMAX's.

My best 300 Weatherby load was a 190 SMK, Weatherby brass, 79.1gr of 4831SC, CCI Magnum primer. That was a Custom mauser with a Hart Barrel and was a LASER.

Is it the one with the blue stock and fluted stainless barrel?

Re: weatherby accumark??

I purchased one three years back. Did a bunch of load developement and finally sold it. I purchased it to replace a mdl 70 that was chambered in 300 Wby. The best this particular rifle would do was just over 1 MOA. Not bad for hunting purposes, but IMO under what it should have done given the price tag. If you got a good deal...then enjoy it. Hope it turns out better than mine did.

Re: weatherby accumark??

I've had three Accumarks and all were Dogs, barely capable of 2 MOA. I have one Weatherby that was customized that will shoot a little under 1/2 MOA through a Hart Barrel. Not sure where the problem was but I used the same scope for all four.

Re: weatherby accumark??

I had one in 7mm WBY mag and it was a hammer. Solid 1/2moa performer with hornady 154gr SP. I finally got tired of feeding it and traded it a while back.

Re: weatherby accumark??

I don't think Weatherby free floats their barrels. That may account for the inconsistencies in accuracy. Mine was one of the Original South Gate ones from the 50's. It was built from a Mauser action but it was All Weatherby. Probably built by the Man himself! That's how the original ones were made. It shot about 1.5MOA

Re: weatherby accumark??

I have a 340 Weatherby Accumark and it shoots well under 1 MOA and it has a free floated barrel. I've killed Elk, Moose and Caribou with it. Great cartridge and rifle with a 275g Swift A frame, 89g (as I remember) of R-25 in Weatherby brass.

It's a bit punishing to shoot without a brake.

Re: weatherby accumark??

I have a 30-378 and 257 Wby Accumark. The 30-378 is a 1MOA rifle with Barnes TSX and MRX. Shoots better with SMK and Scenars but this is my hunting rifle so I stick with the Barnes . The 257 sub MOA with Swift Scirocco.

Most Wby chamberings have an ungodly amount of freebore which is not the best for accuracy. A friend set his Accumark barrel back and recut chamber for less freebore. Shoots 3/4MOA but cannot run same loads as I do
