ok, i have shot a few v24's in silhouette competition with 22lr's but never on a high power rifle. i have never looked through a vortex, but have heard more than excellent things about them.

so the real reason i am asking is that i think my old simmons 44mag is about at the end of its life. it just doesnt track like it used to, and when i dial back down elevation, the poi changes for about 4 or 5 rounds till it settles back down. im kind of sick of that. i dont have a whole lot of money to play with (would like a IOR, just cost too much right now), so of those two which would you take and why? I also want around 20 power upper end. and are there any other scopes you would suggest that would suite my needs?

bob,

your statement to Hunter223 is pretty crude considering you seem to have your head up bushnells ass and jump on every thread you can to preach the virtues of the elite 4200 6-24x50. i had one and did not like it. i do like the vortex and i do like all of the other 4200's i have had. why dont you give your opinion and then go on about your business?

Re: weaver vs vortex

Guys,

Warranties are merely words on paper. It's how the companies human resources put those words into action that really counts. In that context, Vortex wins hands down. Bushnell's CS has been really bad this year, the worst in recent memory. It's just not the FFP spotters, I've had three customers with Elite 6500 scopes with missing parts on the turrets that had them and me jumping through hoops and waiting a long time to get satisfaction. Bushnell did not want to refund or replace the scope, they wanted to make the customer wait for the little parts to come from Japan (6 weeks) until they realized the turrets were FUBAR and then we finally got it taken care of about 2 months after the issue was brought to there attention. Hostile CS reps and ineffectual corporate mgmt negate the benefits of any written warranty. On the flip side, I've known of customers returning Vortex scopes that the tech dept could find NOTHING wrong with them (the complaint was images that weren't sharp enough or clear enough) and they were handled with a smile and a replacment or refund coordinated through us.

Back on topic, I've had terrible experiences with Weaver in the past but that is old news and I'm willing to check them out this year at SHOT. Still think Vortex is the safest choice of those mentioned right now.

Point taken. Hunter223 deleted his post and I deleted mine. Sorry to have troubled you....

Thanks,

Re: weaver vs vortex

thanks for all the responses. now to add to the quandry, i found somebody selling a trijicon accupoint 5-20 for 800. easily as clear as anything i have looked through, my only beef with it is it has much less elevation. something like 40-45moa total. so should i just spend a little more coin or go vortex. if that one sells out from under me ill go vortex anyhow

Re: weaver vs vortex

You mention Vortex, but don't say which line you are looking at. I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 and I would say I much prefer it to my Weaver V16's. Granted I still love the Weaver's and leave them on my rimfires, I prefer the turrets, 30mm tube, and side focus for my long range guns.

Re: weaver vs vortex

ok, nother one. as for the falcon optics, are they worth it? i have heard all good or all bad, no middle ground. kind of would like mil/mil, but can live with out

Re: weaver vs vortex

there is a differene between the Weaver V series scopes and the Weaver Grand Slams. Grand Slams being better. I'm still not sure what the hype is all about with Vortex Vipers. There are other scopes as good with a better price point. Vortex did well with there other series of scopes and the prices are great. But after having two vipers in the 6.5-20x50 bdc's, I just can't see what the praise is, the glass is not overly great, I've hunted with both and they fail pretty quick in dim light, and be ready for a bold/thick reticle. (they have been addressed of this quite a-bit as they told me over the phone, and might change it in the future.)
