I need to lose weight, but this question regards building a lightweight AR. What are the easiest ways to cut the weight of a 5.56/.223 AR? I would use the gun for plinking, varmint hunting and of course would like reasonable accuracy. What's your lightest weight AR?

I would say the first 3 mods to drop weight are barrel, handguard and stock. Depending on what range your plinking and varmint hunting, either go with a slimmer profile barrel or go with a shorter barrel with same profile. Handguard choices could be slick carbon fiber tube, shorter handguard or slim profile with all excess material removed (KMR, ALG, Clark Custom, Carbon Arms, 2A, etc). Last would be the stock, if you're running a one of the heavy weights (UBR, PRS, etc) and you don't find yourself using any adjustment, ditch it and go with a MFT, BCM, Moe-SL, Super-Stoc. If you do need the adjustment then check out the Luth-AR or XLR.

I just recently traded off a nice lightweight 223 wylde AR. Cant remember what it weighed (sorry) but it consisted of:

JP upper and lower receiver set
Gieselle 3G trigger
BCM gunfighter charging handle
Hogue grip
Odin Works 18" long SS barrel in their 3 gun contour
rifle length gas
Ace stock
JP SCS
JP compensator
15" long Odin Works handguard
cerakoted tungsten grey and black

It was an insanely accurate rifle and very light!... Just had that scope on their for accuracy testing.
