Getting ready for a two gun match this past weekend I noticed on Thursday that something seemed off with my Vortex PST II 1-6 and upon closer inspection, yep the fiber wire for the red dot was detaching from the vertical stadia.

Despite the dot ending up where it's at, the optic was still zeroed and worked perfectly fine otherwise throughout the entire match. I just used the scope with the dot turned off and/or used the piggyback mounted red dot when needed. To Vortex's credit, I emailed them Thursday evening and had an RMA with a shipping label in my inbox Friday morning. I'm not even upset that I'm having this issue, as an adult in the real world I recognize that anything human-made has the potential to break regardless of how much it costs. If someone subscribes to the logic that if someone pays x amount of dollars then that thing should never break has never heard of Range Rover or airplanes.

Ah the same old bullshit. How original.
I mean I've got 5 vortex scopes including 3 razors, and I've had 2 out of the 5 go back for their warranty service. They've taken care of me each time, and given the price point, I'll continue to buy more but my experience is what it is.

Are we not allowed to make fun of vortex a little on here or should I just stick with jokes about having to sue NF?

Your joke was old and warn out. Try something new. You have only been on the site a couple months. At least bring some originality. 😉

I'll say this, Vortex earned some major points in my book when they took care of those that got fucked over by Scott/Liberty Optics by fulfilling their orders at the price they paid LO for. Vortex didn't have to do that but they took that mantle on and made them whole, demonstrating once again that they set a pretty high bar for taking care of customers in general.

Yup they did but rarely hear praise for it. Just the old “best warranty you will have to use”. I have been using Vortex since 2012 and have had around 20+ of their optics. You know how many went back because they broke? 0. I only had to send two back for other reasons. I sent one AMG back as they had a recall to fix the grease in the turrets on the first run units and I had one red dot that the battery leaked and locked it up the battery cap. They replaced the red dot. Yeah it’s nice to have them there on the rare chance it’s needed.

    What a coincidence…….
It couldn’t handle my encore muzzleloader last weekend.
Mine moved from left of center to right of center after a few shots sighting in at the range. Had this on an AR for a couple years with no issues.
I also have a Burris xtr2 1.5-8 that burns through the battery after each use. I need to see if Burris will do what vortex does

I may have only signed up here a few months ago but I've been using vortex scopes and red dots for close to 20 years now. I don’t run them particularly hard but have had plenty crap out on me especially if you count their red dots. Again I don’t particularly mind this because of their outstanding customer service and price point. I’ve also recommended vortex to many because of the above reasons.

That being said, my personal experience says they aren’t as durable as NF or aimpoint etc and that’s okay…

The main problem is unlike those brands Vortex has models from $150 to around $3000 now so you get guys that use the cheapest lines and have an issue and yell “Vortex Sucks!” all over the internet. I have used my Razors hard and never an issue so I would say it comes down to models and not a blanket statement of Vortex warranty will be used as that is not true. When buying cheap optics it’s great to have that option there though and a company who will take care of you better than any other. They have definitely raised the CS bar in the industry which is good for all of us as it wasn’t always like that.

I already stated I own several razor scopes and never said vortex sucks. Quite the opposite actually, so I’m not sure what more you want

Vortex warranty IS the industry standard.

Sometimes, you have to use it. As you will other brands. The only time a company did not ship a defective unit on a given date is because on that date, the doors were closed and no one was working.

I have worked on Motorola SP-10 and SP-11 two-way radios (the kind you see people wearing at The Gap and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.) Motorola published the fact back in the 90s that they had a failure rate of 3 percent. Which is great. No, no one ever wants their device to fail.

I also have read in here of people with pricey scopes having a problem.

So, IMHO, Vortex is not the only manufacturer who has had to warranty a product. They also warranty the products that get misused by the customers. No questions asked - period.

I have some Vortex scopes and they all have worked fine for me.

I've had about half that many over the years and the only stuff I've sent back was minor things that didn't really affect the scope much. Once had a coating on an objective lens that had come off from being wiped off too many times. Other item was an elevation knob that had become just a little harder to pull to unlock than I like. Both scopes still worked fine and held up to quite a bit of use over the years. None of my other Vortex items have ever been sent in. I've got a Razor 11-33x spotting scope that has been put through the ringer forever and it won't stop doing its thing.
