Then he was guided into absolute power by those who thought they could run the government by pulling his strings. And don’t get me wrong, he guided himself, too. He had a vision and even wrote what he was going to do. Fundamentally transform all of Europe and the world.

Throughout the entirety of human history, I think there have been very seldom, most likely no other times when the sheer barbarity and brutality concentrated in one area has exceeded that of the Eastern Front from 1941-1945. Hell had literally walked on Earth at this time. The Hundred Years War was not even close. The Thirty Years War and the sacking of cities like Madgeburg? A little closer, but still off by a far margin.
