So you want to learn sniping for its utility in a survival situation. Very good. A competent rifleman is quite a force, especially since we the people generally lack heavier arms than rifles these days. Third-world tribesmen have heavier weapons, but not free Americans, no Sir! So sniping it is. That worked well for the Boers…until the British went into a full-contact fight.

I read a Wilber Smith book based in that time period and on those events. In Wilber Smith's book (as I recall it) the British had no chance of ever forcing the Boers into a full contact fight, as conditions were when the war started. The clever British sent large detachments to the Boer farms to collect all of the women and children. They took all of them to a fortified concentration camp. The British provided less food than was required to sustain the prisoner population. Further the British allowed Boer Men under a flag of truce to visit their families but they did not allow them to bring any food. As the Boer Men began to see their children dying of starvation, they knew they could no longer fight a protracted war, so they had to bring their light forces into full contact with the British on terms decided by the British.

I guess the point I am making is that this strategy was successful for the British (at least in my recollection of Wilber Smiths book) because British families were protected from retaliation by distance and oceans.

I officially know everything I need to be an operator...err, I mean sniper now. Thank you for posting.

They did mention a little about ammo, but they forgot to add that you need pretty dang good ammo to be a real sniper.
