Let’s hear it? What’s in your get home bags? I’m currently reevaluating mine to lighten it a bit. It stays in the truck most of the time so I don’t worry about weight too much and I can carry 50 pounds all day long with no problem but as tech increases I’m starting to look at things I may should swap for newer stuff. Stuff lighter in weight.

My BOB does doubly duty as an ARES/RACES jump kit...so it’s more COMMS specific

    But in no specific order:

    1) FAK with trauma kit
    2) 3 days food and water
    3) change of clothes
    4) can of sterno
    5) heat reflective tarp
    6) lighters
    7) glow sticks
    8) flash light
    9) hand warmera
    10) 100’ paracord
    11) mechanics gloves
    12) small fixed blade knife
    13) write in rain notpad
    14) basic toiletries kit
    15) 2 hand held ham radios with roll up j-Pole antenna
    16) spare batteries
    17) small basic tool kit
    18) small compass clipped to outside of pack

In the truck I also keep a mossberg 500 and a SW shield

Whatever kit you build... keep it light as possible.... and try hiking with it....a pack that’s bearable in mile 3 might be agony by mile 6

Carrying 50lbs might be fine when you are dry cool and comfy.... but when you are tired, injured, and it’s hot and humid.... it’s gonna be misserable

If I had to create a stripped down kit with just the bare essentials it would have

    1) FAK
    2) 3 days of food and water
    3) heat reflective tarp
    4) change of clothes
    5) 100’ paracord
    6) a good knife
    7) can of sterno and a lighter
    8) handheld GPS
    9 HAM / CB radio
    10) flashlight
    11) preferred means of personal protection

That would be a nice light pack under 20lbs....And would be nice and cheap, you could have a good serviceable kit for under $100

    In my Camry I keep:

    sleeping bag
    extra tennis shoes
    Axe
    Sledgehammer
    Small shovel
Hardwood Cane (can always be used via ADA if no guns permitted, and makes for an excellent weapon if I cant have a gun)

    backpack with
    extra clothes
    lighters
    glow sticks
high calorie / high fat foods (basically homemade granola)
    paracord
    12 ga slugs/buckshot/birdshot
    few other things

This backpack is more of an emergency get home bag rather than a BOB.

Carry a H&R single shot 12 ga as my longarm. Always have a G26 or my issued Sig P226 (or both) on my at all times.

Figured if the shotgun gets stolen I’m out $200 and can buy another for cheap. I’d like to have a Mossberg 590 or AR-15 though, but they cost more to replace and this H&R is more than capable of taking game or two legged predators.

This is awesome! Your kit is almost identical to mine! I have 5 kids and a dog so everyone has a backpack they can wear (even the dog) packed and ready to go. I don’t have a HAM but I have 2 pairs of small wallow style long range units, and I have added 1000 calorie survival bars for weight, that way I can extend the packs from 72 hours to a week with some rationing.

I am of the NutNFancy philosophy. I will bug out if needed temporarily but bugging in is the best option.
