Due to unfortunate circumstances I’m stuck in Allen, just north of Dallas for a few days. Any awesome Gun shops, ranges, or cool stuff I must see?

You should channel the late Slim Pickens! I'm sure you're familiar with this scene from the movie "Dr. Strangelove..."

Originally, he was going to say, "A fellow could have a good time in Dallas with all that stuff..." :)

But they changed it at the last minute due to the assassination of Pres. Kennedy...

Allen is not a bad city to be in.

For a gun store, visit GunMaster in Plano on Avenue K and Plano Parkway (right after Sams) Tuesday - Saturday.

The Bullet Trap indoor range is just down the street from there and offers gun rentals.
They used to have 2 F/A pistols to shoot as well, I'm not sure if they still do.

For long range shooting at a nice range that you don't have to deal with crowds, make the 2 hour drive to TacPro in Mingus.
There is also another range about 1.5 hours south.

Alpine Range is a pretty cool shop if you can get to Fort Worth.
Personally I avoid the Big D and ever since Triple C closed have no reason to be in the area but SWFA is in Midlothian. Waxahatchie has a pretty cool vibe and good eats BUT the traffic getting there sucks ass! However, I suffer those slings and arrows just because they have a BBQ supply joint called Meat Church!

Didn’t that one to the south close recently?

There is also an indoor range a couple miles from Love Field on Mockingbird Ln. Been there a few times and it isn't bad.

Texas Legends is actually in Allen, basically HWY 75 and Exchange parkway, so depending on where your house is, it may be practically next door.

There is also the Cabelas for fun on the north end of Allen near the event center area. (right off HWY 75 as well).

This place looks like fun...

You know everyone says to go there and I have never been impressed. Even pre-panic it was like "this is the pace for reloading/gunsmithing/etc.." but it was the same stuff as every other store (or lack thereof)

Anywho

If you wander into Cabela's, ask for my son and see if he hooks you up with a deal. He's the idiot who thinks he knows everything.
Wait--need to be more specific
He's the young idiot who thinks he knows everything.
Hmm...still not narrowing it down...
Ok so he is one of the idiots that work there... (You can tell which one he is cause he laughs or scowls when you shout "I WANT TO BUY A GAY TIGER" at the gun counter--if you ask for ammo or primers, they may take you out back for a hangin, the whole lot of em)

Might want to check out the stockyards in Ft Worth if you have time, Allen Preimium Outlets if the missus is with you. Scheels over in the Colony (go down 121 from Allen) is a nice visit for the sportsman. Its just the start of "Hell" season so everything kinda shuts down for the next 3 months or so.

FInd a decent BBQ joint (Everyone will have their favorite)--If you can swing it, hit Lockhart in downtown Plano.

Get to know them and ask them to special order what you want.

For example a couple weeks ago they had brand new 6.5CM brass for good prices.
They also had .308 Lapua brass prior to that etc.
They are getting in powder and primers regularly, but it all goes to the people who have put their names on the back order list.

I find for actual guns, they usually can generally work out as good a deal as you'll find online for most guns that are in widespread production.

Thanks. I’m going to check out a couple of these places. I’m in Allen for a wedding and my catalytic converters were stolen off my truck so it’s in the shop. It was too obnoxious to drive. As in riding with ear pro on and still rattling my jaw loud. Lol. I have a rental car and a gun buying problem. Things will work out. Lol

Where in Allen did this happen?

Usually Allen is a pretty safe place but of course the didn't do nothings are getting bold all over it seems.

It happened at the Hilton. The officer doing the report said that people are coming up from Dallas and stealing them. Worst yet I got in an accident in Dalhart on my way to Allen(wasn’t my fault). It wasn’t a good day for me.

I thought recycle didn't accept cats without paperwork?
Guess crook recyclers too...

I’m not too sure. It would make sense to require paperwork, but I’m hearing it’s getting bad across the country.

There is always some crooked garage places that are happy to buy stolen parts and use them on repairs so they can bank extra cash.

Jebus! This is why I don't get much further than Lonestar anymore. Hell, I spend a night in Gilmer and had a bad feeling I was going to wake up to all my shit stolen...

P.S. The Frontiers of Flight museum isn't a bad distraction.

Actually legit trash recyclers in Texas now require by state law for individuals dropping stuff off to have a specific state ID for recycler individuals.
But again, lots of crooked places taking in stuff at night...

I could see why it would happen at the Hilton, right off the highway on ramp so they can steal and then be out of town minutes later.

This is what you get when your police force decides to be all nice and friendly.
Back in the day, the Allen police department had a pretty well earned reputation of being pretty harsh on anyone not from the town that came there to cause trouble.

It really sucks that happened to you.

regarding the catalytic converters…..they are stealing them because of a rare element in them that is bringing buku money right now. it’s got nothing to do with garages installing stolen parts.
Lots of rare earths in the CATs but platinum is the main draw...

Yup. Rare Earths despite the name are not "precious metal" rare, but platinum tops gold for value and all cars have it (which is why we have unleaded gasoline).

ANyway the main artery N-S is both 75 and Dart, at a church group a while back, a guy mentioned that basically every car gets nailed in the parking lot for the DART (train for you heatherns who are not educated on Dallas)--people commute both ways in the morning--into Dallas for work and out of Dallas for "work" The father E-W you get from that, the better your odds. (of course this totally helps AFTER the fact).

If you are a liquor man--check out Acre Distilling in Ft Worth. Kinda a history lesson and the 'tour' is the owner telling the history and sampling drinks. My kinda tour!

I believe the newer cat's have so little platinum in them that they arent worth it... but crooks gonna crook.

Last I saw, with the newest(like last 10 years at least) cat's it would take ~10 to get 1oz of platinum... They only have like 3 grams of platinum in them.

And its not really easy to get JUST the platinum out of them.

Holy Christ, what a thing to happen, damn sorry to hear that.
Quick question, what the hell did you think when you hit the key ?

At first I wasn’t sure. I was still groggy from lack of sleep. So I turned the engine off and turned it back on kind of confused. I thought “that wreck did more damage than I thought “ so I opened the hood and looked at belts, fans, radiator, etc. I didn’t see anything and cranked it back up and though. “Sounds like my exhaust manifold separated.” I climbed under and saw the cats were missing then was really frustrated and pissed off at the same time. The following day I didn’t even want to go outside. I was expecting the rental to be on blocks or something. I will say this. Driving my tundra to the dealership with ear pro on was still loud. I tried not to hit the excelerator. Someone told me Toyota and Mercedes has the most precious metal in the cats. I should have bought a Chevy. Lol

Damn

If traveling with the misses you could do the Groupon "date night" for the Frisco Gun Club...(very close to Allen) - shooting and dinner ($$$). I'm not going to advocate one way or the other but if you have money to burn and want to see how the 1% waste money here...

Make sure you eat 1 time at a Babe’s chicken Dinner house. Damn good, fair priced food!!

There is a beretta gallery that was pretty impressive. It's been about 5 or 6 years since I was there though

In Texas, you could park your car at the DART and setup a hide 200yrds out. Would send a strong, perfectly legal, message.

So far I shot the mini gun at Texas Gun Experience. That was expensive, but fun. I’m a history buff so the aviation museum and ranger museum look interesting. I drive through here a few times a year.
