For shooting 400-500 yards? Bolt action Savage. We have been using bulk Federal 55g for up to 330Y. However, thinking we need to look at little heavier grain.

75gr Hornady BTHP with a 9 twist Savage barrel; Steel Match is fairly inexpensive if you don't reload and 24-24.5gr Varget will get you around 2850-2900fps with a 26" barrel if you do reload.

75gr Black Hills Match BTHP through a 20" with 8.75 twist has been working very well for me. Haven't stretched out to that yardage yet but with I am seeing, don't think it would have any problems getting there.
