No it actually survived being eaten, but 1JO4 scared it to death when he took the picture. I mean come on guys, its hanging by its fucking throat in a fence. You don't live long like that.

Not directed to the op, but this picturedoesn't look quite right to me. The horns and the fence seem to be in very good shape for having been through a death struggle with a big buck.
Is is a shame though, regardless of how the buck died..

I'm guessing he went quickly, however he encountered the fence. Otherwise the wire would have been bent and he would have torn loose.
I have similar 8ft pagewire fences surrounding my property as a previous owner used it as an elk far. Deer can and do clear them when they want to, though I have strategically cut sections to 4ft to allow them access where I want them to cross as I am working hard to convert it to huntable land.
A couple years ago sighting in the day before deer season opener my first shot jumped a buck and doe bedded right near my 100yd berm. Out of curiousity, I went back after and pulled the game cam card back by the fence. It was hilarious. The doe jumped first, didn't quite clear, and the camera caught her curled up bouncing off the fence. The buck was just launching and must have cleared.
What I have found more curious is that a full size coyote can fit through the 4in squares in pagewire fence if properly motivated. Apparently "someone" emptying a 30rd AR mag at them is proper motivation.

I'm with 264win... that deer isn't caught in that fence. Nothing indicates it is tangled, and would be dangling if eaten by coyotes. It may well have been eaten on the ground, but it's definitely had some assistance getting in the position it was photographed in.
How can you not clearly see that the deer is caught? Are you kidding me? Like someone's gonna take the time to put a eaten deer carcass into a fence, just for a photo. That is some straight stupidity. You can clearly see the tines hooked the fence and it buckled under the weight. With how deep that fence wire is into the deer neck, it most likely cut off the blood flow to the brain and died within a few minutes or so.
In addition...if it was dead on the ground and repositioned...I guess the predator/scavenger started at the feet and got full by the time it reached the neck???
Stuff like that happens way more than you think. People like the attention.
I got this pic from another guy on our lease. We have to keep fences around the corn and protein feeders to keep the feral pigs and domestic cattle out of them. Some of the cattle can walk over a "hog panel, so I have cattle panels around my feeder. I've watched yearling deer clear the fence easily, but this buck didn't make it. He may have grown that kicker into a proper drop-tine next year. With his leg caught the way it is- and the lack of damage to the fence- I'm pretty sure he broke his neck on the way down.
