Wanting to build a new gun, thinking 6.5 creedmoor, but got ? over the action to use. Is it worth it to take a r700 and have it tried and all the good stuff or should I start looking at customs. If customs, I am thinking Stiller predator line, or should I go another way.

I'm trying to make the same descision, have a sendero stainless long action. wondering if i should use this action or spend the $$$ for something new. i love the surgeon and badger actions.

I think the most common response you'll get is to just buy a quality custom action, rather than a 700 and getting it all tuned up...not that there is anything wrong with a tuned up/blueprinted 700 action.

Which one to buy? Well, read up, pay your money, take your chances.

In your case, you can more strongly consider keeping your existing action...because you already have it. That's different than starting from scratch with nothing in hand. Weigh the options between selling your current rifle all up and starting from scratch, versus building what you've got.

Is how much of a price difference are you usually looking at for getting one trued and blueprinted. I am thinking once I get the action and all the smith charges I'll at least be looking at a 1k won't I.

Re: What action for build

Is it an option to use a Savage action? You can do all of the work yourself and slapping on the barrel couldn't be easier. I would recommend that over a 700 just due to the ease of assembly.

I say go with a predator or tac 30. Yes the group buy is on and the deal is smoking hot. Also, since you are close you could probably pick it up at their office.

Hard to beat $760 for a custom action. Hard to true a Remington for that.
