Rifle Scopes What base and rings for new scope?

I posted a few days ago about being new to this hobby and am building a budget long range rifle for hunting and shooting out to 400-500 yds.

I currently have the rifle, a Savage model 11 in .308. The scope I am purchasing will be a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-12x40 with mil-dot reticle.

I have searched around, but need some advice on what would be decent rings and base for this set up and my needs? Remember I am on a budget out of necessity. My Savage in .223 and Nikon scope has plain old weaver 2 peice base and weaver rings. It has held zero out to 200 yards and 1 hunting season without fail for over 100 rounds. However I'm thinking I need something beefier for the .308?

Links to sites would be great. Thanks again for all the help and valuable info!

G, Take a little time and look back through the posts. There is an abundance of discussions on this subject and budget for one person is different from the next. I think you'll find what your looking for. I like Seekins but it will run you a couple hundred. Good luck, RT

Best bang for the $$ IMHO would be a McRee's 1 piece base, along with SWFA super sniper rings. You can spend more if the budget is there, but these will hold up just fine and at about $80 shipped are ridiculously cheap. Good luck...
