Rifle Scopes What base for my .223 bolt gun?

I searched forever. So please don't flame me.

I recently purchased a R700 SPS Tactical in .223 to use as a "trainer", and mostly so that my wife can go shooting with me. I'm going to build the rifle close to my .308 build.

My question is do I need a 20moa scope base for a .223 rifle if I'm not planning on shooting past 300 yards with it? Or can I get away with a 0 cant base? I'm just asking because I have a Badger 0 cant base on hand already.

I'll be mounting either a 10X Super Sniper, or the new adjustable Super Sniper to this rifle.

Thats good to hear. I'm glad I don't have to spend $150 on another scope base when I already have one.

I'm looking at the Falcon's now. I'm happy with my SS, but I think maybe I should try a few different scopes out since the SS was my first magnified optic purchase.

Where is the best place to purchase Falcon's?

First of all, even with a scope that has very little elevation, say 38-40moa...that will still get out to about 600 - 650 depending on load.

No need for any canted mounts. That is even more true using a Super Sniper which has a massive amount of elevation, which makes this entire issue moot. Heck, the Super Sniper doesn't even need a canted base to get the .308 out to 1,000 yards!

I wouldn't even bother with using a rail of any kind. I'd just buy some sort decent Rem 700 ring mounts, and check sizing charts to mount the scope as low as possible for a better cheek weld and hold. This is for a .223 out to 300 yards or so as a range rifle/practice rifle. Why spend $150 on mounts? This isn't combat where life and death depends on keeping a zero even if the rifle gets banged around. Regular plain hunting mounts will be totally secure, hold zero and serve their purpose well for your application.

I already have the 0 cant base. I'm just going to add some rings now. I'm thinking about getting the Burris XTR's. They seem cheap, and the ones on my .308 are holding up so far.

I just scored a deal on a Super Sniper scope so this gun will be ready for the range soon. I can't wait to get my wife and the rifle out to the range.
