My subject line pretty much says it all. I've had great success with this ammo in my Remington 5R. Seems to shoot as well as the 168 SMK. maybe a touch better. The information on Hornady's website does not mention what bullet is used. Anyone know? Thanks.

It's a Amax bullet. In there TAP FPD ammo. I think all the TAP ammo is loaded with Amax bullets.

Someone correct me if I'm worng but I think this is correct.

Thank you for the replies. I also thought it was the A max bullet. I'm impressed at the TAP ammo, especially for the price. In our area of Michigan, it is $10.00 cheaper than the FGM.

I've never seen this link before, Thanks Jasonk.

Follow my link above your post, there are 6 TAP loads shown for 308, only 2 use Amax bullets. I agree that Amax is likely the most popular, but there are others.

You would not happen to have a measurement of the OAL of these would you?, I have not purchased any of the loaded ammo but I do load the 168amax. Just curious to what length the factory rounds are.

I did see the different TAP loads listed in the link. The one I have is the Black box, nickel plated brass, 168 gr bullet a red tip. Pretty sure it is the A max.

I'll get you the overall length from the few I have left. Since we have company coming over tonight through the weekend, I may not get to it until later this weekend.

I've never even seen the 165gr GMX or Interbond TAP or the regular 168 BTHP one, I wonder if they are new? I can see why someone would think they are all loaded with A-max bullets since the only stuff I ever see for sale is the 110gr TAP (V-max) and the 155 and 168gr TAP (A-max).

You should try the standard 168 AMAX loading from Hornady. Same velocity and 168 AMAX bullet but should be even cheaper than the TAP. Shoots great in my rifle.

If you wanted to load the 168 AMAX then try some Varget. 43-46grns is the listed min/max charge with Varget.
