Thanks for viewing this post. I am trying to understand how to adjust this scope. It is a Swarovski Habicht 3-12x50. I use it for hunting. On the turrets it says 1 click = 1cm/100m (and) .36in/100yards. I have been using the jbm calculator. Doing some math, bullet drp/yards x 3 get me close to 1/3 for click adjustments.

Question-Should I use 1/3 inch clicks or 1/3 MoA, and what do use for the windage being its 1cm?

Question-Im not sure if im using the jbm calculator correct. What is the max pbr and max pbr zero used for?

Thanks,
James

Re: What do I use, 1/3moa or 1/3 inch clicks?

.36" at 100 yards is 1/10 mil. Use 'mil' or '1/10 mil clicks' in JBM.

ETA:

Sorry, I didn't read your whole post. Max PBR and max PBR zero refer to "point blank range". The variable "vital zone radius" is used to control it, and it is how much above or below the point of aim the bullet can impact when no adjustments are on the scope.

So, with the default JBM data, if you want the bullet to strike within 5 inches of your point of aim, then zero at 309 yards, and you will hit within +/-5 inches from 0 to 364 yards.

Re: What do I use, 1/3moa or 1/3 inch clicks?

jmyner99er,

Neither 1/3" nor 1/3 MOA, but you would use 1/10 Mil for the click value when using JBM Calculations. 1/10 of a MIL is 0.36". One MIL is 3.6" @ 100 yds.

Maximum Point Blank Range:
Maximum range for which the bullet does not go above or below the maximum point blank range radius.

Maximum Point Blank Range Zero:
Zero range to achieve the maximum point blank range.

Re: What do I use, 1/3moa or 1/3 inch clicks?

Ahh, I did notice when I bore sighted it, that 10 clicks would move me up/down one graticule.

That makes sense about PBR, thanks, I love learning new things!

I have spent like four days searching info, I have even emailed swarovski (no reply), of course this forum seems to be the most knowledgable!

Im sure I will have more questions...

Thanks!

Re: What do I use, 1/3moa or 1/3 inch clicks?

Another question, when sighting your rifle in at 100yards, how high should the bullet hit the 100yard target if you wanted zeroed in at 300 yards? Would it be 3" high or 10" high at a 100 yards to hit the bullseye at 300 yards?

Thanks

Run your program or your JBM with a 300-yard zero and look at the bullet path compared to line of sight at 100 yards. At 100, you zero to THAT point above point of aim to be on at 300.

My ancient Sierra III Ballistics has a specific function for that, and gives it to you in MOA or 1/4-minute clicks for "sight in X (high or low) at XXX yards for a zero at YYY yards".

I just picked up the same scope and I'm a total newbie to long range (mostly a bow guy until my new rifle). Anyway, since I have no idea what I'm doing, I went to the local outdoor shop here and he told me that on my .300 Win Mag/Weatherby Mark V, the scope was only good out to 300 yrds or so and to sight it in at 200 yrds and leave it. True or false? Any additional information about that scope would be extremely helpful. Again, I'm new to the long-range world and have no idea what I'm doing.
