Hi, what do you recommend? Remington 700 Police or 700SPS Varmint? Also, 700 Police = 700PSS... right?
I already have an AICS stock so the barreled action will end up in the aics.
The guys at the gunshop told me that the 700 police is more accurate than the others 700... is this true? I think they're telling me that to make me pick the expensive one..
Also, what other benefits will I get with the 700 police?

Thanks alot for your comments..
Best regards

Re: what do you recommend?

If I was the one selecting one I would look for an R5 mil spec it is a stainless action and barrel in the 11.25 twist which is the same twist an Army M24. The 700 Police in .308 will probably be a 26 in barrel and the R5 a 24 in barrel both are also available in .300 WM and .223. do an internet search on the R5 Mil Spec and you will see what I mean. If you are open for a scope suggestion I would look at SWFA 's 3-9x42 Super Sniper for $599.95 or if you can afford it a Nightforce.
If you dont like the stainless look for a tactical gun send it to Walter Birdsong to have it finished Black, Green, Tan, Brown.
I think the tan is really attractive. Look at some of the rifles that GAPrecision builds and see what all can be done before you select because George builds a very nice rifle.

Re: what do you recommend?

Thank you very much.. but unfortuntely for this matter, I live in Argentina and my only 2 options:
- 700 Police .308Win $2025
- 700 SPS Varmint .308Win $1600 (this one is not in stock... I have to wait 3 weeks)
Today I received a S&B 5-25x56 PMII LP P4F and MIL CW knobs

The stock will be replaced with an AICS I have sitting here waiting for the rifle.

Thanks again

Re: what do you recommend?

I'm suprised how much they are selling for there. I found a like new in box 700P in 308 for $850 at a local store about 6 months ago. Didn't get it but sure was tempted to buy & use it for a future build. My preference is for the 700P versus the sps varmint. My friend has the SPS but hasn't shot it so i can't comment if it is more accurate.

Re: what do you recommend?

sps varmint.

without the stock in consideration, the 700P has a parkerized finish that is more durable than the sps, but is it worth $425... thats up to you.

sounds like youll have everything you need for a world class rifle there.

buena suerte

Re: what do you recommend?

Yes... too sad our prices are that high. You're VERY lucky there.
SAKO TRG42 338lm.. only 2 in my country... $7800 each.
CZ 751... $5500.
AI: impossible to get one of these.
AR15 and similar: only legal in .22 caliber (only M16, M4, AK47 and GSG5 available... around $1300 each).

Anyway, thanks for your comments... I will go ahead with the 700 Police... by the way... is 700 Police the same as 700PSS? Will I be able to use my picatinny rail with the 700 police?

Thanks..

Re: what do you recommend?

I would go with the varmint. I personally dont think the difference is worth it (besides the stock), but others will think differently.

Re: what do you recommend?

The 700P has a 26" barrel and the X-Mark Pro trigger. The older, no longer made, 700PSS had a 24" barrel and the non-X-Mark trigger. The stock will be an HS Precision with aluminum bedding block.

The rifle will accept any Picatinny rail which fits the Remington 700 short action, using #6-48 screws. You can have it drilled and re-tapped to accept #8-40 screws if your base will accept them.

Only thing missing is the rifle.. This will be my rifle:

Remington Model 700 SPS Varmint or 700 Police (.308Win)
AICS 1.5 OD
US Optics 20MOA Picatinny Rail
Badger Ordnance, Rings, USMC, High (1.49")
Badger Ordnance, Tactical bolt knob
Badger Ordnance, Recoil lug
Huber tactical trigger set at 1.5lbs
AI bipod with rubber shoes
AI black sling
S&B 5-25x56 PMII LP CW P4F MIL

And I've a Shilen barrel #7HV contour, cut at 23" from the recoil lug, recesed target crown, waiting to be completed (in a couple of months)... I will save this one to replace the factory barrel once I wear it out.

What do you think? I will post pictures when I've the rifle in a couple of weeks... I've everything here... only thing missing is the rifle

Re: what do you recommend?

Looks like the making of a good rifle. I agree with the SPS model, especially if you are going to replace the barrel. No need to spend the extra cash for the Police model. I have both. I must say my SPS varmint in 243 caliber is just as accurate as my old Police model in 300 win mag.

Re: what do you recommend?

I'm really thinking considering those prices if all you are after is the action and you already have a good barrel why not look for just any Rem 700 short action and have a gunsmith put it together. Even if you found a just a plane jane Rem 700 ADL or BDL that would do.
Also you might think about putting a Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash Suppressor on it.
