I'm building a nice rifle since I can't afford to have GAP build one for me all at once. I was going to do a big-bore but decided to stick with smaller bore sizes for various reasons. I'm not in a rush on this gun as I have a few long range rifles that are all capable of doing the job, whatever that might be.
I'm using a post-64 Winchester M70 action. It's had the bolt raceway lapped so it's as slick as a Krag-Jorgensen now. The trigger was professionally done and is my finest trigger. I've ordered my barrel from Black Hole Weaponry (polygonal rifling) in the form of a full-bull profile 24" 10-twist (154gn bullets) 7mm barrel chambered for 7mm rem mag with a barrel nut. Yep, I'm converting a Winchester to a barrel nut system. Making a WinAge I guess. I've already got a Choate Varmint stock for it which I like despite it's inexpensive nature, it's very comfy and very heavy which both help my use case. Later on I may upgrade to a different chassis stock. I've got a 20MOA scope base for it already and a harris bipod. The scope it'll wear is still up in the air but I'm leaning toward a USO ST-10 or a HDMR Bushnell or maybe a Valdada 16x42.
So, anything else useful for it? This is a belly-crawling rig that I won't walk around with. It'll be turned loose against steel plates from 100-1500m and otherwise it'll help hold my safe to the floor. I don't know any benefits to cerakote but it occurs to me that brake caliper paint or header paint might be tougher. Using caliper or header paint gives me the option of making something properly garish.
