I'm building a nice rifle since I can't afford to have GAP build one for me all at once. I was going to do a big-bore but decided to stick with smaller bore sizes for various reasons. I'm not in a rush on this gun as I have a few long range rifles that are all capable of doing the job, whatever that might be.

I'm using a post-64 Winchester M70 action. It's had the bolt raceway lapped so it's as slick as a Krag-Jorgensen now. The trigger was professionally done and is my finest trigger. I've ordered my barrel from Black Hole Weaponry (polygonal rifling) in the form of a full-bull profile 24" 10-twist (154gn bullets) 7mm barrel chambered for 7mm rem mag with a barrel nut. Yep, I'm converting a Winchester to a barrel nut system. Making a WinAge I guess. I've already got a Choate Varmint stock for it which I like despite it's inexpensive nature, it's very comfy and very heavy which both help my use case. Later on I may upgrade to a different chassis stock. I've got a 20MOA scope base for it already and a harris bipod. The scope it'll wear is still up in the air but I'm leaning toward a USO ST-10 or a HDMR Bushnell or maybe a Valdada 16x42.

So, anything else useful for it? This is a belly-crawling rig that I won't walk around with. It'll be turned loose against steel plates from 100-1500m and otherwise it'll help hold my safe to the floor. I don't know any benefits to cerakote but it occurs to me that brake caliper paint or header paint might be tougher. Using caliper or header paint gives me the option of making something properly garish.

It's a switch-barrel now. I've got my 2nd barrel being cut now and I'll get a 3rd probably next calendar year.

90's production Winchester Model 70 action (lapped/trued/polished in useful places) (rattle can forest green)
professional trigger job
24" Black Hole Weaponry barrel (7mm Rem Mag 1:10 full bull profile w/ bronze cerakote and threaded muzzle w/ barrel nut headspacing) (cera-kote bronze)
CMT Ultimate (well...good anyway) Varmint Stock (rattle-can olive drab)
SWFA SS 16x (desert tan)
Burris Signature Series 30mm Rings (20MOA dialed in the rings) (rattle-can desert tan)
EGW 20MOA 1-piece scope rail (rattle can desert tan)
5/8-24 - 13/16-16 muzzle thread adapter (rattle can desert tan)

I'm waiting on the barrel nut right now. It's a custom piece from BHW and didn't come with the barrel. I'll be doing the paint job on the bipod and the bipod rail later today. A buddy and I are cutting a muzzle brake from .125" thick coins of steel that we'll then pin together. Using the stacked coin method of manufacture is allowing us to do some experiments in gas handling based on some things I learned about the way hydroelectric turbines are configured.

BHW = Black Hole Weaponry (Black Hole Weaponry). They make rifle barrels for AR platform and some bolt action rifles (flat breech rifles like push feed winchester 70's and remington 700's and savage 10/110 series). Stainless steel, polygonal 3 land (if you can call them lands, more like lobes) rifling, 24" max length. I have a few of their AR barrels and they're all one-hole shooters. The barrels run price-wise with the rest of the decent barrel community at around 300-400 and up. They have all kinds of fluting options, cera-kote, muzzle threading and profile options. I really prefer much longer barrels and carbon steel but the polygonal rifling has been so good on my 5.56x45 and 6x45 rifles that I had to try it on the 7mag. They make their barrels start to finish and last I saw at their forum there was some chatter that they'll buy or rent a reamer if they have to.

Best customer service in the industry. Lead time was about 6 weeks and they kept me informed the whole time of what was going on and haven't made any promises they didn't keep. Their barrel cutter worked with me to get precise measurements of my old barrel and bolt face so installation would be a snap.

I've burned a few 7mag barrels over the past few years and I'm hoping that the way that these are rifled will help keep throat erosion down and extend the barrel life. It sure makes cleaning easier. Check em out.

When I saw BHW Black Hole was the 1st that came to mind but I had no idea they make pre fits. Good to know and keep us posted on accuracy. Throat erosion happens...
