Varget or R-15, take your pick.

Varget is a little less temp sensitive, R-15 is a bit faster.

4064 will shoot just as good also, but more temp sensitive than either. BLC-2 is another good one, but dirty. I stick with the first 2.......

I did testing with the following powders in 3 different 308 rifles that all had 20-21" barrels:

Benchmark, H414, RL15, W760, Varget, 8208 XBR, IMR 3031, IMR 4895, BL-C(2), TAC, Big Game.

Best combination of accuracy and velocity was as follows for the 155 Scener:
IMR 8208 XBR
IMR 3031
Varget

For the 168 SMK:
Varget
Big Game
RL 15

I REALLY like 8208. I have gotten impressive results out of my .204, .223, and 308. Looking forward to trying it in my 300 WSM.

Sound decision. While TAC will work for 308, and I have used it for 308 loads, I prefer 4064 and have been doing some 3031 dabbling. TAC is my go-to load for 223 with 77gr SMKs for 200/300 (23-23.5gr) </div></div>

3031 39.1 grains with 168 hornady's amax my savage put 10 shots into one hole and very mild recoil about 2550 fps.

IMR4064, loaded under 168 SMK's or Nosler CC's to 2650 ft/s is wicked accurate in all my 308's.

Temperature sensitivity is very crappy though, be prepared to tweak for the seasons to keep that velocity. The same load at 20F shot 2550fps and at 90F it shot 2700fps.

Ive tried to fall in love with Varget but RL-15 still seems to amaze me. I dont spend much time with a crony but when you can shoot 1/2 to sub 1/2 moa anytime you go out why try to track that Varget down. The tac is pretty good also. In my .308 it goes best with lighter(125gr-155gr)bullets. Love that smell of Reloder 15 thou!!!!! Mmmmmmmm!
