Got most of mine from a retiring ATF guy. I got a good deal as he said he got them "for pennies on a dollar" - whatever that means.

Mine "re-"started in 2013. The fellow that turned me on to cave diving also turned me "back on" to guns.
I actually started training when I was "single digits" in a summer day camp. One of the camp counselors that also served as the camp's bus driver as well as the person who would arrange an overnight "bivouac" for the campers with Military tents, etc. (one night for girls, one night for boys). That counselor would take us every friday to an indoor rifle range at a local private HS (probably doesn't exist any longer). We would shoot .22 bolt action single shot rifles at 50 yards. After I got used to the noise, I didn't do all that bad.
Later on at college, it turned out the P.E. dept. would offer a "Riflery" course. When I saw it, I took it right away. It was tauight be the USMC Gunnery Sgt. on station there for NROTC. We shot both .22LR pistols and similar rifles as before (just with the pull button safety).
After that and, although I never wavered from support of 2A, I kinda drifted away from the shooting sport itself until 2013, when my cave diving buddy got me back into it. He took me to his local range and I had the best time of my life. I had to learn to deal with recoil all over again but got dialed in rather quickly. After that session, I started to work on getting my own first weapon. Living in he PRNJ, there were extra complications. I had to be interviewed personally by my CLEO at the time. Thankfully, he was a PRO-2A CLEO. He signed all the paperwork for me to get my NJ FPID card and signed for my 1st to P2P docs. My first weapon was a Sig Sauer P226. I used the other P2P for a Smith & Wesson M & P Shield (1.0). From then, it went on to getting a shot gun (I think a Mossberg 930 semi auto), and it took off after that.
I sold a lot of my initial inventory but replaced some things (I replaced the OG P226 and the Shield but have also acquired a "Shield Plus" since). I've also acquired a P320 and a P365 (my EDC). That as well as several 1911s. I had purchased a Colt LE6920 assembled OEM1 upper/lower which I tricked out with MAGPUL MOE furniture. It was nice, but I didn't like the front iron sight blocking my view, after scoping it. So I sold that and decided to build an equivalent AR15. It's nice. Same MAGPUL furniture, but I built it from scratch ( from a stripped upper/lower). And no "iron sights" at all. Strictly scopes. I also have some other shotties (Mossberg 590a Shockwave and a 940 JM Pro). And I have parts for other ARs waiting to be built. In 2020, I got into PRS and acquired a RPR in .308 Win. Also slightly pimped out (new stock and other things, including a Vortex Strike Eagle 50/25 .Mil Optic).
My hope is to be able to pass them on to my niece/nephew (my niece liked my 1911 .45acp) and pass on the support of 2A to them as well. We'll see. My niece is working in Va. Beach as a physical therapist, and my nephew just graduated college and is working near Trenton, NJ. at (of all places), my old nemesis, the NJ DMV (Ugggghhh). As soon as my niece changes her driver's license to Va, I can FFL her "graduation present" to her. Same with my nephew but I'm not sure about his DL. His could still be linked to his Parent's house. And my sister (his mom) won't allow weapons in the house. I understand her issues and they are legit. After all, she server with distinction for over 30 years in the NJ Natl. Guard, deployed for 1 year at what was FOB Speicher (at the time) just north of Tikrit, and came home from that with a Bronze star. She retired an O-6 Col. I think what earned her that Bronze star is the reason why she won't allow weapons in her house. She knows what they can do. And she used them for that purpose.

For the rest of ya'll, I took up .22 on the farm. Grew up in the 50's watching all the WWII movies and everybody carried a 1911 so when I could I bought a Colt 1911. Paid $225 cash for it and got a receipt, no ATF bullshit in that time.
On a seperate note, until recently I never thought of myself as real patriotic, just a citizen doing his best, but when you grew up on stuff lke the below you just come to have a really deep respect for our way of life.

I started with a couple sawed off shotguns, then I progressed to some full auto unregistered machine guns with 10” barrels I figured if you gonna break the law you might as well double up on some NFA violations per gun, but what I really like is my oil filter mufflers on them fuck ear pro I ain’t looking like some nerd in wood shop.
