Surprised that none of the media really seems to be covering the riots in Tehran right now. You'd figure it'd be all over the media's websites. @THEIS you hearing anything, across the pond?

Media is going to give it a big wide leaving it alone because this is big news and favorable toward Trump.
40 years Iran has been a thorn in the side of this country and if done right now there is a chance for them to join the group of civilized nations.
The signifigance of this is historic.....

Hoping they dont all end up dead for that.
If someone can make the arrangements I’ll go.Anyone want to make a gun run to arm the civvies? Haha.
Sad but true. The enemy within.Today I learned that I have more in common with the protestors in Hong Kong and Iran, than I do with the democratic party in the US.
Maybe, but I am not so sure. What is happening shows deep thinking on Trumps part. 40 years ago the people openly embraced the overthrow. Maybe even with the help of goon squads to cement it. They lived that life, and know it well now. Now they have the opportunnity to do it again and it looks like they are taking it. The only way it works out is if the people do it.Meh, they are xpecting The US to screw them like Obama did some years ago.
Unsure if Trump won't also.
Trump will do what's good for USA and if he gets an offer that is better he will pull the rug out from under the protesters.
The Devil you know may be better than the One we don't.

If the people in Iran can see Trump as different. So should we see it. Or at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

How easy would it be for Venezuela to get armed, though? Iran is one thing; like @Blue Sky Country said, there's gonna be arms caches and markets and ways to get that shit in the Middle Easy, from Hi Power clones to RPGs. Maybe there's still some shit in South America from the '70s and '80s, but I don't see them being able to get effectively equipped so easily now.If Iran falls I think Venezuela will soon follow. There is a connection.........all part of the New World Order War.

Well there were plenty enough loyalists in Tsarist Russia to machine-gun and saber-hack the peaceful protestors and demonstrators at the time, and even during the actual revolution too...How loyal are soldiers when they are eating dog meat while th boss eats steak?

But I see your point. I don't think I'd be 100% trustworthy or hopeful of that working out, though.

This is true, and Northern Ireland has been doing much the same for decades. I'm not denying it's possible that Venezuela would get weapons, even The Good Shit(TM), enough to effect a proper revolution, but for some reason I just don't feel convinced it'll happen as well as it might in the Middle East. I could be very much incorrect but I've always figured there was a greater pipeline, so to speak, between the West/Russia and the Middle East/Southeast Asia/Africa for that sort of traffic, while South America is somewhat more isolated from it. Obviously Mexico and the organized crime shit down there have their means and ways, but the cartels have the money to get it.Black markets are extremely innovative, fluid, and adaptable. Criminal elements in any country will be able to find a source of arms and the income that can be generated off of their trade is absolutely immense. From them, other special interest political groups as well as civilians who want a measure of protection will be the source of this income. Look at how much contraband that is amassed from prisons each year. From cell phones to drugs and weapons. And a prison is about the smallest and most easily controllable micro-society on the societal hierarchy, from the family unit to the country. Crude and very effective guns can also be manufactured by those with even limited technical know-how. Historically, the single largest source of illicit arms in any country in the world with tight gun laws would be theft or organized insider trafficking at state arms manufacturing plants, with production numbers edited to fool government auditors. Secondary sources would be conscript soldiers taking items out of the armory, along with shipments arriving from abroad via organized crime.
Briefly on the subject of the Hagia Sofia, I've been there and seen the Varangian Guard's names carved into the railings. Viking shock troops/imperial bodyguards. Have photos of it somewhere but that was over a decade ago I was there.A smart tyrant knows to keep his shock troops well fed, well paid, and well motivated by the additional prospects of pillage and rape. This has been the primary mechanism of the despotism engine since the days of antiquity. The Byzantine emperor Justinian, even on the brink of being dragged out of his own quarters by a mob which had sacked and burned it's way right to the inner courtyard of the imperial palace, was able to muster the troops needed to slaughter the mob down to it's last participant, and restore order. Many of these same troops and leaders would later be instrumental in the creation and guarding of the Hagia Sophia Cathedral, which was Justinian's ultimate hurrah of triumph to the entire world...
Fought a healthy blurb on PBS this evening.
