Im putting together a custom .300 Win. Mag. on a Mcmillan A-5 stock.
Its the Desert Camo stock. IF Anyone can Send me some pics if you had yours painted it would help.
What paint is the best?

Thanks

Re: What paint to use?

I have only sprayed DC. VERY easy to use and has held up perfectly. As with all of them, preparation is key.

I paid Dimensions to do this one, and it has been posted several times, but this is DC/

Re: What paint to use?

I have used a lot of duracoat but after using the air cure Cerakote on a couple of stocks I like it more, significantly more resistence to cleaning solvents. The biggest limitation on Cerakote is the limited color offerings.

Re: What paint to use?

All of these are KG Gun Kote but, any thermal cure product will work and work good. KG is easier than cerakote because it's a one part process unlike cerakote, duracoat and durabake, they're a two part process. Unused KG product goes back into the container, the others are waste.

I am always attentive when cleaning to keep solvents off my DC, but I have wondered how well it would hold up. So, you have had some issues with DC succumbing to cleaners?

I like the air cure cerakote but its a little more brittle than duracoat. I get a lot more chips with cerakote air cure. Duracoat fully cured is pretty solvent resistant but if your looking for the ultimate resistant paint, use air cure cerakote. For metal I like oven cure cerakote. KG tends to gloss up with wear (but is awesome for bolts if you want a super slick action), Duracoat is too heavy for close fit parts.

Re: What paint to use?

I guess my preference is based on the fact I do it for alot of friends that are cops and they tend to love the carb and brake cleaners. I have found both to be a little rough on duracoat but with a little care it would probably be fine.

The only specialty coating I was every really disappointed in was Norrels air cure. A little bit of carb cleaner or anything real mild but with a petroleum base will take it off almost instantly. Not a knock on Norrels, I really like the oven cure but the air cure was not easy to apply and was less durable than krylon.
