what profile do i want?

i have AIAE, i won a 50% off cert from Broughton at a match this weekend, i want to pick up a backup 260 barrel.

currently i have a 26" MTU thats heavy as shit...

i want a 22", but whats a good profile to knock down the weight, but still a good match?

#12 Standard Palma would be my pick and a #12.4 Heavy Palma if you wanted something slightly heavier

It depends on the caliber, for 243/6mm I always go with medium Palma, heavy Palma works well for the 6.5s to 308. I have never been a fan of the ultra heavy profile barrels unless its on the big bore rifles, 338LM etc.

What profile considered a stock ai Barrel?

I don't know of a barrel contour that will match the AE contour exactly, it has a pretty steep step down a few inches forward of the tenon. What caliber will the new barrel be? If it were me, medium Palma if your going with 6mm but I would choose 24-26" for the 6mm, heavy Palma if your going 6.5-308. At 22" you can afford a little more weight, so heavy Palma gets my vote.

I like the Shilen #7LV contour for my 260 Rem tactical match rifle (24").

My 22" .260 has a rem-varmint contour, fluted. I'm sitting around 9-10lbs empty & stripped. I have shot upwards of 30 rounds in quick succession and it holds 1/2 MOA vertical or less. I think if you have a quality tube you can shed a lot of that weight without much adverse effect, save for increased recoil.
