Looking at getting a Vudoo .22. I know is always best to have good glass on the rig but what if your only shooting say 50-150yds, is it still worth dropping big money on a scope. Any scope suggestions?

I think "worth dropping money" is up to you. I am sure some guys are running TT, SB, Nightforce, Gen II rzr's on .22's

For me if I am going to be behind a .22 shooting paper all day, i would enjoy a very good piece of glass.

You will hear from time to time, most people shoot higher mag scopes at short range paper than long range steel.

Swfa has a big Black Friday sale every year. They mark their 10x mil quad from $300 down to about $225-250. That's what I would put on it. Burris XTR, extreme, rings (whatever their now called) and be done. You can't touch the quality these Optics provide for that price elsewhere. I'm actually buying one myself for an AR in a few weeks when they mark them down.

I guess it comes down to how much you use the rifle. It turned out that I spend more time behind my 22 than any other rifle. I also compete with my 22. For those reasons I bought a fairly nice scope for it. I put a 4-24x50 Sig Sauer tango 6. If I had the disposable income to afford a SB or TT that is probably what I would have on it. If I wanted to put a perfect mor budget oriented scope I would probably mount a Athlon Midas TAC. That is what I have on my other 22’s

It’s all relative. I run a Zco 527 on my vudoo. I shoot both .22 and centerfire equally.

Besides all the obvious advantages, I can also toss it in a centerfire and not feel like I’m looking through a coke bottle.

If you have a really good piece of glass on one rifle, you’ll likely be spoiled and tend to shoot the rifle with lesser glass not as much.

I run a Athlon ares etr on my vudoo. Seems like it fits the bill. Glass is good and the price point works. I’ve banged steel at 500 all summer with this set up can’t bitch about it.

My Vudoo wears a Vortex 5-25x50 gen-2 Viper PST FFP. I don't regularly shoot the Vudoo past 300 yards so I don't need alpha glass - but I do find it extremely useful to have 25x magnification when I'm shooting paper for dope at 150-200 yards; I can see the holes (on light-colored paper).

I have a 3-15x44 gen-2 Viper PST on my CZ 455. That's plenty for competition but I find myself going to a spotting scope for dope gathering. Annoying.

My son has an SWFA 16x fixed-power scope on his CZ. It's ok but the eye box is tiny. The 3-15x Viper is vastly better but cost 3x more.

My centerfire rifles wear 4.5-27x56 Gen-2 Razors. If someone were to give me another one, I'd put it on the Vudoo - but, with the majority of my shooting/competition at 50-150 yards and occasionally to 300, to me it's overkill.

So, for me the Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50 is the best balance of quality and price for a Vudoo.

There are some very good scopes in the $500-$1000 category these days, skimping on optics is a mistake on any rifle.

While I haven't used one the Athlon Midas Tac has resounding good reviews, this would be the minimum I'd have on a NRL/PRS type 22lr.
I personally like the Vortex PST Gen 2, have compared to many other similar priced options and to me offers the best value.
Lots of threads on here and other forums that will keep you busy for many hours.

You are gonna love your Vudoo. I have a thread over on the rimfire forum talking abt what scopes people put on their Vudoo. Mine started life with a NF NXS 5-22-56 and I liked the scope but I didn’t like the fact I couldn’t focus down inside 50 yards. I went ahead and purchased a Vortex PST GEn II 5-25x50 and while there was absolutely nothing wrong with that scope, it still didn’t have the “big gun” feel. I ran across a killer deal in a Gen 2 Razor 4.5-27x56 from a fellow hide member and that now sits on my Vudoo. I absolutely love it too. I was torn between the ATACR 7-35 and the Razor and I think for a 22, the Razor is hard to beat and half the cost used. My PST went on my 10/22, so everything worked out.

I've been behind a Midas TAC, briefly, on a Tikka T1X. Glad you mentioned it. It seemed sharp and clear (at least at the short 50-yard distance where it was set up) and I think the focus goes down to 10 yards. I liked the floating-dot reticle enough that I got the new EBR-7C one on my newest Razor. I didn't have time to get a good feel for turret and other adjustments so no comment there. Athlon does say it has a true zero stop - I assume that means it doesn't need shims.

As others have said here, don't skimp on glass. You've invested in one of the best .22s on the planet. Give it an optic to match!

Another consideration is the Gen2 Ares BTR. Should be like a Midas TAC in turret feel but with illume and an all .2 mil reticle.

I hate poor glass, love great glass, but I'll take the features I prefer, combined with good glass, as foremost. So give me the Gen2 Ares over the better scopes that don't focus at 25Y or below, and that have reticles I don't like. Also I'm not always on high mag and want to see the reticle easily on 10x, so I don't want a tiny dot or super thin reticle, the reticle thickness in the Ares is just right.

I am using a pst gen 1 4x16 on my Vudoo at the moment and not happy with it. Was going to get an Athlon Tac when the Meopta Optika6 appeared so ordered the 5x30x56 with the reticle Ilya designed. Still hasn't showed up yet but initial reviews seem promising. Not much help but something else to look at.
