I've got the ugly black hat. Wore it once to vote in maybe '12 or '14 after it was reported a precinct in GA turned away a voter due to his NRA hat. I'm a little surprised someone didn't say something. Not because of the NRA, but for wearing a hat in the church I vote at.

I didn't see the box saying "I don't want swag." I also didn't see the box asking them to not call me every other day.
I believe they s an option to not get swag or the magazines.

I bitched here a while back about them calling. I believe it was @Redmanss that mentioned that I should have never given them my real number.

I'm a life member.........the only thing I ever got from the NRA was a sticker that stated the same..........consider yourself lucky............

Their merch has always been shit.
The last time I "took" one of their calls, I expressed my displeasure at them dropping the hearing protection act to the back of the room due to the Florida s hool shooting.
Oh they crawfishes, told me they hadn't abandoned it, something about waiting for a more "favorable climate".

I told the unfortunate asshole that's the reason I'm not giving shit today, nor any other day, till you pussies start being dicks.
I just hang up on them. If they aren't gonna spend my money wise fuck them.
I used to average 3-400 a year to the NRA. Haven't give a dime in a couple years.

I've been an NRA member since my senior year of high school.

Have not been for the last two. And the bump stock shenanigans made me really question their intent as a voice for gun owners.

But now, California mag ban overturned and NRA-ILA fighting more legal battles elsewhere. So I am on the fence on whether or not I want to be a member again. Decisions decisions...

At the same time, they are the one unifying force we have to rally behind. After all, the statists and gun-grabbers are REALLY scared of them, based on the way they always speak about the NRA.

A friend got that same knife. Dull as hell. I shatpened it and saw the lock bar was messed up. It would close and the lock would stick up and let the blade have no tension on it. Worthless in my opinion.

Im also a life member and have said many times. I don't agree with a lot of what they do or don't but they are the best and loudest voice for gun owners. Several groups have stepped up but its the NRA that still scares politicians.

Just google the money brought in by the NRA compared to others. Tens of millions in difference.

I was able to buy some standard capacity magazines this week in ca because of the NRA. I was able to get a CCW because of the NRA. I could care less about the hats, knifes and other stuff they send when i renew my membership. California type gun control is coming to all the free states. The only organization that has the power to stop it is the NRA. A cheap knife is the least of your problems.

I am joining up again.

Last couple of posts on this thread confirmed it for me. The California victory is pretty substantial and I and my shooting friends in my AO have been celebrating it big time lately.

As long as the organization's leadership keeps their ears open to what their constituents are saying about them, and changing their ways to adapt to the constantly changing environment of the RKBA battlefield, they can be a very potent group. Right now they are only at about 20% of their full potential. They have the capability to grow into a lot more.

They should realize this when people are bitching about them: Bitching ain't a bad thing. The reason we bitch is because we actually care. And besides, a lot of us give them a substantial amount of money. As long as they get their shit together and keep fighting instead of playing internal rivalry, they got my support.

NRA don’t do shit. You wanna support someone? support your vets. Especially the ones that take their oath seriously. You wanna help California? drop ship some “evil black parts”. It is pretty sad that nra sent a member a china made knife. It’s even sadder that this surprises people. Do you have a decent Arsenal? Do you have plenty of beans bullets and band aids? Do you have a organized QRF? Time for fighting in courts is running out. Time for fighting in the streets are getting overdue. If you really need a knife and can’t find anyone in the lower 48, ship me some metal and a idea and I’ll make you one when I’m stuck in my shop for winter.

Doing both right here...

On one side I am writing very high-road letters and shit to try and convince some of the more misled antis to see the truth. But I am also training, keeping my skills sharp, and buying more ammo.

New Zealand is already a spark in the flash pan. The reason why the main charge hasn't ignited yet is because the powder is damp. Also known as a hangfire. The statists here are calculating the shit that is going on in NZ right now, versus the risks of playing chicken with the 3% of American gun owners who are willing and capable of drawing a line in the sand. Sooner or later they will get tired of the lag and shove a lighted match right into the flash channel. Then it is going to be game on.

Thing that gets me is on their prepaid envelopes they ask you to use your own stamp so NRA can save the postage "to fight for your rights".

Well how about eliminating all the BS swag save for some shirts or hats (Made in USA) ie those items that promote visibility to the public.

It is important for the NRA to carry items that can be viewed by the public.

My kid was out walking with his friend and friends mother a few years ago.

She saw a sticker on a car and said "There is a mass murderer".

Later when he was with me my son saw the same sticker on another car and told me the story.

It was an NRA sticker.

I explained to him Im in the NRA and they are the furthest thing from mass murderers. Its a rights organization fighting to prevent people from being helpless in the face of mass murderers.

That cunt and our kids probably need to see people they interact with wearing NRA crap I guess to counteract the negative portrayal by the media.

A cheap Chinese knife does nothing for that goal.

Love or hate the NRA they are the biggest elephant in the room and until proved to be a cover for antigun incrementalism shit they should be supported.

@MtnCreek did me a solid this week. He had an item I casually mentioned I was looking for and than offered to provide same to me. He wanted no money but when I insisted he said "Okay whatever donation I think the items worth to my gun rights organization of choice"

Second Ammendment Foundation got a $50 donation.

I know @Tucker301 killed the "What you got?" open ended bartering thread but I wonder if a thread where surplus gear could be exchanged for an appropriate donation to any real gun rights group would work?

So if I have a surplus double Sig 40 magazine pouch collecting dust on top of my safe and post it. First guy that posts Ill take it and shows a screen shot of his $10 donation to GOA, NRA, SAF, COMM2A, CALGUNs, participates in whatever Good Guys with Guns may be active - whatever legit 2A rights org - gets the item sent to him as cheaply as I can do it.

Some items could have a reserve. So if someone has a railed front end they want to see generate a donation maybe they say "First $80 donation".

Needs to be someway for it to not become a bidding war.

Maybe small items are $10 minimum and bigger items of value have a reasonable reserve.

Its just to get rid of gear that all of us have and want to throw away but that dumb voice in our head says "Someone may need this". Our wives are right - no one needs our shit but if its only costing them a donation to something benefiting them anyway we might trick them into thinking they do.

Buyer gets a piece of gear, seller cleans shit off top of safe, everyone benefits from better funded fight for 2A.

Good idea? Bad?

As a stalwart NRA supporter, member, instructor, RSO and recruiter they are like a family member who has stabbed me in the back. I will not be renewing my membership this year over the bump-stock issue. Next year we will see.....

I am also tired of the NRA throwing the mentally ill under the proverbial bus. Define mentally ill? As someone who has read a lot of the DSM-4 and followed some of the changes in the DSM-5 I know that this is anything but an exact science. Most folks on this forum could be squashed into one category or another.

As for Dana, she is awesome but I feel the conflation of the cultural war with 2A rights is not a good long term strategy. I would like to see more of Colion Noir. I think he appeals more to younger folks. I have always felt 2A should be a Republican,Democrat, gay ,straight, black white latino etc stand alone issue. It does not belong to Republicans nor should it be conflated w/ abortion, religion or NRA’s money making schemes.

Your idea is good. There are people out there that are struggling to pay bills and can’t even afford ammo though. I personally was laid off right before thanksgiving and just this month got back to work. I know I’m not the only one that would love to have some of y’alls seconds and hand me downs, but cannot actually afford to send money to a org like nra and could not in clear conscience send them money if I had it. You wanna know how I support my 2nd ad though? I occasionally buy those 5 special parts for a ar and bury it with some other stuff. I find fellow vets on the same page and give them a lower and show em how to build if there not as technical as me. Do you know anyone that could use a black rifle and don’t have one?

The NRA is a joke these days. "Give us more money so we can live rich lifestyles all the while doing nothing for your rights".

A proper pro-gun organization's end goal should be putting themselves out of business.

You did not get your Charton Heston signature picture with saying, " great thanks for serving to cause and Freedom " ??? . and your Heston signature Silver Bullet ?
.

The NRA will harrass the ever living shit out of you for money too. I told them to fuck off after they threatened to take me to court because i never paid for a membership they said i asked for.

You can call them and tell them to save the money they spend on their paid callers and take you off the call list. Tell them when you want to give, you'll call them. They'll tell you that if they do you won't get important updates about issues. Then tell them, jeez, i guess I'll have to find out somewhere else and to please remove you anyway. I haven't had a call in years.
