Ok well I have a rifle, good rings, scope, bipod, and plenty of ammo. What is the next most important peice in a ELR shooters bag? I have a very very cheap spotting scope, should I look into replacing that? Do I need a good range finder vs. using gps yardage measuring on ranging through my scope? I by no means want to be that guy with all the gear and no abilty to use it but I want to have the right gear so as I am training I am do so with what needs to be used. Any advice?

Re: What to buy next?

A rear bag, a rangefinder, something to run a ballistic program like Bullet Flight, and a range book for dope and notes.
I'm new at this too, but those are a few things that I use every time I shoot.

Re: What to buy next?

I picked up a couple of rear bags yesterday actually lol. I have ballistic FTE on my iPgone any idea if thats worth a crap? Yeah I do think a good range book would be nice. What did you decide on for a rang book?

Re: What to buy next?

I would think for ELR beyond the rifle and ammo, ranging capabilities are next most important as even a small error in range at ELR distances equates to a miss.

Re: What to buy next?

Thats is kind of where my mind was, I am kind of trying to decide which one to get. I'd like to find a good rangefinder but not break the bank. Where is the cross road on that?

Re: What to buy next?

I use BulletFlight L2 mostly, and it's been working for me.
My data book is the Impact, and my buddy's is the Storm Tactical. Both seem to work fine.
As far as rangefinders, he's got the Leica CRF 1600, and I've got the CRF 1200. Mine has ranged stuff past 1300 yards in good conditions, but in bright sun with a poor target I'm screwed past 800. His always works out to around 1100 yards where we shoot.

Re: What to buy next?

Yeah I think Leica must be the way to go I keep hearing great things about them.

Re: What to buy next?

BulletFlight L2, I will have to look into that one. Is that something you have on your iPhone or on a laptop?

Re: What to buy next?

No no trust me I am not offended. I am looking into some training classes. I thought about signing up here but I really would like to fine a class to attend. I have been looking around a bit and I just dont think there is much in my area. Im in south Louisiana.

Re: What to buy next?

A good shooting chronometer might be something to consider if you don't already have one.

Re: What to buy next?

I understand the hat, its purpose, but by God, is it ever ugly!

Perhaps, I'm just not serious enough about winning

Re: What to buy next?

The most important thing about the hat is that it's a great character builder. If you show up at your next tactical match wearing that hat and somehow survive all the laughter of your fellow shooters, imagine how tough you will be after the laughter dies down :)

Whether you can survive the laughter about the jacket is entirely another matter :)

Re: What to buy next?

I have wanted to buy one of those databooks but really dont know what pages to get. At the moment I am just running a regular binder and making notes in it.

Re: What to buy next?

Mobius, check this out. I decided what I needed and bought accordingly. There are so many pages available you should have no problem putting together a book that fits your needs.
