Got a new stock but it was painted and really dark Green. I know it is Forest Green Molded Camo underneath. I have been using Brake cleaner to strip it but it is taking alot of elbow grease. I was wondering if their was better chemical to use that would not damage the fiberglass.

I tried the search engine and google and the best I found was a forum that recommended a Fiberglass boat paint remover.

Thanks for the help

Try MEK or Lacquer Thinner. Tough stuff. Don’t worry about getting small scratches in the gel coat underneath the paint. After all is said and done you can take some 320 or 400 and wet sand it, it'll look good as new, maybe even better.

I get my MEK from Lowe’s.

If you leave it on too long it will damage the gel coating.

MEK is the shiz for paint stripping, but anything that'll eat paint will also eat your insides. Read the MSDS and use PPE. There's a reason the .mil stopped using MEK over a decade ago.

Acetone and red or green scotchbrite or 200 grit (no rougher) is what I'd use, even though it's slow. You'll be able to remove the paint and keep the scratches away at the same time.

Acetone and fiberglass resin shouldn't cause any issues, since the acetone flashes off so quickly.
