What would you choose and why?

Re: What would you choose and why?

Well, I have a 300 RUM but it was because I found the gun chambered in it. I was looking for 300 RUM or Win Mag. The RUM will edge the Win Mag with velocity which is a plus for me and the fact that once the barrel is shot out I can just replace it with a 338 EDGE barrel and use the same brass. I think you will be pleased with either one but the fact that I can push the RUM faster than the Win Mag is what I like the most. Other than that, there's not much difference.

Re: What would you choose and why?

I would choose the .300 RUM for the same reasons Snipedogg likes it, but I do not think there is enough difference to matter either, unless you are shooting beyond 1000 yards. If you are shooting to 1500 and beyond, neither caliber is the best choice.

Re: What would you choose and why?

Have both like both. For you tastes, the 300 Win Mag is probably the direction I would go. It burns less powder and if you are just punching paper, the WM will do that at a very long distance. You don't sound like you need the added energy. If you really want to reach out there, get the barrel in a 1 in 9 twist and shoot the 240 SMK. I am playing around with these in my RUM, but if I recall correctly there is load data for the WM in the Sierra manual.

.300 Winchester Magnum if you insist.

If'n you could talk me into another .300 UltraMag it would have a 26" #7 Contour bbl. w/ a Mcm Marksman Stock, Sniper Fill, 2 Mercury Recoil Reducers and a Decellerator Pad, Steel 1pc. Picatinny Rail, Steel Tactical Rings and scope weighing around 25 ozs.
