What would you guys recomend

I have a Rem 700 sps tact. I am feeling the need to update it or sell it and buy another bolt gun. I think i want to stay with the 3o8. My question is Should i build off the platform i have or should i buy one already built. I am trying to figure out if i want to spend lots of money on a gunsmith.

Any advise or remarks welcome.

You already have a .308 bolt gun. Update it. Its more fun that way.

Shoots good I was thinking of sending it to get blueprinted and painted. I guess i will do this and get a DBM for it. change the scope and get bipod.

Get a new trigger, and drop it into a new stock like AICS or the such, that way you don't have to bed it or buy bottom metal.

do you have a budget in mind?

Also, as mentioned earlier, what do you want to do with the rifle? target shoot, matches, hunt, etc.

My SPS Tac shoot really good. All I did was get a HS stock for it then did a skim bedding job on it. I would work with what you have. Its not worth doing the blueprinting, truing and all the other good stuff to it if you have a good shooting rifle. Just shoot the hell out of it then when the barrel goes out get new custom barrel and work up from there.

I bought my remington 700 so that when I got bored or wanted more out of it I could easily upgrade it. It would seem like a waste to lose money on the sell only to buy another gun when you could have just put some TLC into a good rifle.

I'd say upgrade the one you have. That way you can buy exactly what parts you want and can do it a little at a time if money is an issue.

I have a Remington 700 SPS .308 and I know the feeling... I replaced the stock, had the bolt knob done by AZ Precision, and upgraded the glass. I love the gun but find myself looking at the Sako TRG-22 pretty hard and debating whether to sell they Remmy or hang on to it....

I'm all for upgrading. You already have a good foundation and you're going to spend the money one way or the other.

If you take it to a smith, you get exactly what you want.....buying one, you get what they have to offer
