Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

I just got a CZ 452 American with the 16" threaded barrel. I adjusted the trigger down to about 3 pounds, but it has a ton of over travel. I hate over travel. I see a rifle basix trigger for it, and a timney, and several spring and shim kits. Do the spring and shim kits reduce overtravel? How crisp are the after market triggers listed above? Are there other options I am over looking? Thanks

Jeff

Spring and shim kits can help quite a bit. The adjustable sear that a couple people make will go even further. Either of the above help if you take the time to do a little fluff/buff job on the parts (they come kinda rough).

I don't have one, but have played with a CZ with a Timney trigger. It was noticeably better than mine (which I've worked over with the spring kits and some file-work). All the silly-wet guys running CZ's seemed to prefer the Timney as well, FWIW.

Hi Jeff,

I just installed a Rimfire Technologies adjustable sear in a 16" American. It took out all the overtravel. Trigger pull is at four pounds, but if you clip one coil off the trigger spring you can reduce it to about two pounds. They also have a nice barrell adapter to change the threads to 1/2 X 28.

I had heard mixed reviews of the shim kits when I was looking. I ended up going with a Rifle Basix trigger. I haven't weighed it but it's light and breaks really clean.

silly wet = Silhouette

I think it goes back to the fact that a lot of folks start typing "silhouette" and then realize they forgot how to spell it. At least for me every once in a while I have to enter it in the web search box and look at the suggestions.

I have a Brooks Trigger kit on mine and it helps with both overtravel and pull. its cheap, easy, and works well. i am sure that the Yodave kit is similar. i would do a search on them and pick one and give it a shot. the people at rimfirecentral.com discuss this alot with regard to their CZ's, you could look on there too.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

I do believe the Yo Daves is the same according to folks on rfcentral. AFAIK, Eric Brooks had a good thing going but his CS went to crap and the Brooks kit is no longer available from what I could find.
All I know is $15 and a little diy time and I have a great trigger on my CZ.
Spent the extra money on ammo.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

If buying a spring kit, there's no way I would send my money to Eric Brooks. YoDaves kit is same/same, cheaper, and unlike EB, he will actually send you it after paying him.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

I had a couple of the EB/YD kits that were installed in used CZs that I purchased. One of the CZs would fire every so often when you closed the bolt, changing to the next thinner tube left just a small amount of creep but still WAY better then stock. The other CZ at times had no creep and as the tube rotated on the pin, a slight amount creep would be there for a few shots then it was gone. I purchased one of the adjustable sears and was very impressed but the cost seamed a bit much, thus I started making my own and made them available HERE. I now have springs(not on the web site yet) so you can swap them out and get the trigger pull to your liking.

Had my CZ to the range Sunday. At 50 yards it shot .6 for 5 shots of cci, .37 for 5 shots federal ultra match and .47 for 5 shots with Eley. I am happy with that.

I have the springs in stock(4 different weights) and they will be offered with the sear as soon as I can get them posted on the web site.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

Just for the record. I got the yo dave kit. The smallest shim is too much and leaves the gun with a trigger that will go off if the gun is smached on the floor. Was able to slighly decrease the pull with a lighter spring and still have a safe gun (couldn't use the lightest spring). The kit does absolutly NOTHING for overtravel. I spend $18 for a lighter spring. I am sure results very with different rifles.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

I just installed one of Hotrod9mm's ( Rimfire Technologies ) Adjustable Sear in my CZ Style (Silhouette with nickel finish), and cut 2 coils from the factory spring as suggested in the instructions. I now have a clean break with zero creep and a pull weight that's just right and light enough for my purposes. Very nice. One thing though, I had to relieve a small area in the stock where the sear would contact and bind. But the instructions do mention this, because of the added material in the sear where the adjustment screw is located.

Re: Whats the stright dope on CZ 452 triggers?

I did a Timney, I didn't see a way to take out over travel with the factory trigger because the trigger directly releases the bolt stop. With the Timney the trigger hits a lever after firing, the trigger then pulled harder moves the lever to release the bolt stop.
