Whats this gun good for?

Ive decided id like to learn a little about some long range shooting. Farthest ive shot is 250yds with my Remington R-15 when i had it, and 200yds with my Savage 30-06. Dicks had a sale for black friday and had a Remington 700 ADL Varmint for a good price. Im shopping around for optics right now, but im thinking 16 or 20x zoom at a minimum. If i add a bipod, or use a sandbag, and leave everything else the same, how far will i able to shoot reasonably well before i need to start considering a better stock and trigger. I know the gun can shoot better then me, but at what point am i pushing the limits of that set up?

Your question is vague and broad. Spend a month reading everything that you can here then if you don't already have the answers you will be able to ask much more targeted questions. It's a very good setup and it will probably shoot better than most people who are operating it. A good bolt action in .22lr would be ideal for perfecting your shooting technique without spending a lot on ammo.

This. And instead of asking people on here questions that more than likely have been beat to death, try the snipers hide google search. Here
You can type just about any question you may have into the search and I guarantee that you will find everything you want to know and more. Enjoy.

PS- that is a great rifle for you to get. It will shoot better than you for a very long time.

Thanks guys, looks like i got alot of reading to do. I got the gun in .308.
