. . . without buying a bedding kit?

I have projects of various sorts, including a bedding job, using in-stock epoxy. Ran out of what came with the Brownell's kit long ago.

Where do I find just the release agent, and not just some silly silicone spray junk that's good only for molding plastics...

Same place you got the bedding kit. Brownells sells release agent in a spray can. Works very well.

How well do these various options work with M1A/M1 Garands? Used stiff moly grease for a skim bed job once on one of these, and almost got into trouble with it.

I've used the other stuff okay with bolt guns, far less funkiness in the number of different faces getting glued...

Sorry, should have specified what rifle is next on the list. If it really makes a difference. I'm a bit skeptical of anything that doesn't leave a nice, tough film on the metal.

Johnson paste wax. It leaves a beautiful finish, and can last a very long time. Not that it matters, but it's super cheap. McMillan Family has been using it since the beginning with out ever having a problem. Put it on, let it dry, and polish it. You will not go wrong. Good luck.

I am still using the can of carnuba wax (Car wax without any cleaners) I bought 2 years ago.

I figure a dozen or so down, 83,965 rifles to go for my $10 or so.

hobby shop, check the bedding thread, a guy posted a picture of a can of stuff with the label clearly visible. you can call them. kiwi neutral. some guys use hornady one shot case lube i read. there is alot of info in the thread if you read it and dig a little

Brownell's.

Google "Brownell's", then type in 'mold release' in the item/stock number window. It displayed 3 different product listings when I did it. Maybe it will for you too.

Including typing this post, it took less than 3 minutes to get a definitive answer.

Next time, you're on your own...

It's not like this stuff is rocket surgery...

If you have ever gotten one stuck like I have you dont to mess around with stuff layin around the house, you go with what is proven to work, do not take chances with release agent. there is nothing worse than ripping your hard work and preperation right out of the stock and having it stuck all over the action. I dont want to tell you how I know that can happen.

Right on! I use butter and then spray the action with Pam works way better than the shoe polish method.

Someone posted awhile back about using welder's anti-spatter nozzel spray as a release agent so I gave it a try. It dries clear and works great. I have used it on at least six bedding jobs without a hitch. The only complaint I have heard about it is the fumes may be hazardous. I just neutralize them with brake cleaner and so far the night sweats and hallucinations have not increased too dramatically.

+1 on neutral Kiwi. I used Brownells on my first bedding job because it came in an Acra-glas kit, but broke off a tiny piece of wood. The others were done with Devcon 10110 so I needed something else. I found the Kiwi worked fine, very thinly applied and polished. If I was a pro, I'd go with something better, but when you have time on your hands what better to do than wax your action?

Kiwi neutral for me. Used it three times with devcon and worked well. It IS. Alittle on the hard side to get off tho. Found that some old gun cleaning solvent that takes it right off. Not sure of brand lost the sticker years ago

It's not "epoxease"

Completely different.

One lasts me me about 6 months. I've used it for 10+ years now with very good results. Knock on wood I've not had one stick yet.
Beautiful surface finish, no slimy mess, colorless, and flashes almost immediately.

Thats what my smith uses, I have always had enough in the acraglass kit, but I will have to try the paste wax eventually.

i sometimes think people just dont realize they are actually ON THE INTERNET when they post some of these questions. a guy posted a photo of a spray can of release agent. you can read the label and the makers address, phone number and web address, RIGHT ON THE CAN... next question posted was "where can i get some of that?"

i still cannot believe someone is using anti-splatter from welding as a release agent. especially when the post they are referring to called for the use of flux. which i cant believe anyone would use either
