I just got my Noveske N6 with Vortex Viper PST put together and have fired a total of 160 rounds through the rifle over the last two days. In those two days I have not been able to get the rifle to group at all. The best I could get the rifle to group was 3" at 100yds. I was being complete honest with myself and said that it must be me and not the equipment. So after each range session I would spend time going over the fundamentals and practicing dry firing. Well today I got smart and decided to test the scopes tracking.
With the rifle and scope perfectly still I would adjust the windage 1mil left and would watch the reticle move the appropriate distance. I would then adjusted the windage back to zero and the reticle would return to its normal point of aim with no trouble. I then tried to adjust the windage 1mil right and noticed that the reticle would NOT move at all. Adjusting the scope back to zero would still leave the reticle at the original point of aim. I repeated the test again, this time adjusting from zero to 2 mils left, return to zero, and then 2 mils right and return to zero. Once again the reticle would not move when I tried adjusting the windage to the right.
Out of dumb luck, I adjusting the scope 2 mils to the right, again with no movement of the reticle, and then decided to fire a dry fire shot. Using proper follow thru, after the hammer dropped I heard a “click” inside the scope and saw the reticle jump 2 mils to the left. This would leave me to believe that the windage erector is sticking or broken.
I should have known something was wrong because while dry firing I would sometimes notice the reticle "tremble" after the hammer dropped. However, I kept chalking it up to me not following through properly.
I did buy the scope used off the equipment exchange. Whether or not the original owner knew of the problem or not, I'll never know. I just hope Vortex's customer service is as good as everyone says it is. I'll keep you all posted.
