I just got my Noveske N6 with Vortex Viper PST put together and have fired a total of 160 rounds through the rifle over the last two days. In those two days I have not been able to get the rifle to group at all. The best I could get the rifle to group was 3" at 100yds. I was being complete honest with myself and said that it must be me and not the equipment. So after each range session I would spend time going over the fundamentals and practicing dry firing. Well today I got smart and decided to test the scopes tracking.

With the rifle and scope perfectly still I would adjust the windage 1mil left and would watch the reticle move the appropriate distance. I would then adjusted the windage back to zero and the reticle would return to its normal point of aim with no trouble. I then tried to adjust the windage 1mil right and noticed that the reticle would NOT move at all. Adjusting the scope back to zero would still leave the reticle at the original point of aim. I repeated the test again, this time adjusting from zero to 2 mils left, return to zero, and then 2 mils right and return to zero. Once again the reticle would not move when I tried adjusting the windage to the right.

Out of dumb luck, I adjusting the scope 2 mils to the right, again with no movement of the reticle, and then decided to fire a dry fire shot. Using proper follow thru, after the hammer dropped I heard a “click” inside the scope and saw the reticle jump 2 mils to the left. This would leave me to believe that the windage erector is sticking or broken.

I should have known something was wrong because while dry firing I would sometimes notice the reticle "tremble" after the hammer dropped. However, I kept chalking it up to me not following through properly.

I did buy the scope used off the equipment exchange. Whether or not the original owner knew of the problem or not, I'll never know. I just hope Vortex's customer service is as good as everyone says it is. I'll keep you all posted.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue

Sorry to hear about your problems, I am sure Vortex will get it straight. Yes please post up any updates.

On a related note, I have had a PST on order for awhile now...seeing threads like this gives me serious buyers remorse. Then again, it is a mechanical device and we have no idea of what the previous owner and/or shipping did to it.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue

I wouldn't lose faith in Vortex just yet RICE ETR. For all I know the previous owner may have thrown the scope out of a ten story building. I'll never know.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue

to me what seperates the top tier companies from the lower end companies is not how often things fail, but what the company does after it fails.

vortex will make it right i dont care where you got it. in all my years of experiance dealing with this sort of stuff ive never seen a company do customer service like the folks at vortex

Powereng,

Hard to tell exactly what's going on without seeing the scope. Regardless of the problem, you are completely covered under our warranty. When you've got a free second, ring our service dept. at (800) 426-0048 and they'll get things squared up for you very quickly.

Umm...I wouldn't lose my faith and have buyer's remorse just yet, sir. That is a damn fine scope for the money. Rest assured even if you get one with problems, it'll get fixed just as the OP's will. One of the reasons folks choose Vortex. Try to relax until you actually get your scope and get to use it. Also, what's with all these stories about folks waiting months on end for these things? Shortage? Well worth the wait, I suppose, then again, it's all relative! Individuals on here really like that 3-15 Weaver tactical with the EMDR reticle...

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE

I got my scope back from Vortex today. Eight day turn around time, not bad. I do have a question about something different that I noticed. The magnification ring now slides fore and aft along the axis of the tube approximately 0.0360" or the thickness of 3 business cards. You can hear the grease under the ring stick as you slide the ring back and forth. Not a huge deal, but I can see sand and junk getting in between the gap over time and turning the scope into a pepper grinder. Just wondering if anyone elses scope has this ring slop or am I just being overly picky. Thanks.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE

Powereng I just checked my PST out and I do mot have the same gap that you have. Mine is sealed when you rotate the ring. I think I would call Vortex back.
For what it is worth I just went through the same thing as you. Bought from a Hide member and it arrived, mounted it could not get a group....Scott contacted me on the Hide and 8 days latter I had a new one. I would just ask for a new one? The way they take care of folks I bet they do it?
Good luck!!!

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE

I just checked mine as well. No gap of that size on mine. However, to confirm the service from Vortex, mine has been back, after I purchased it here on the hide, it showed up with dust/debris on the reticle. 7 days later, scope came back perfect. I have about 190 rounds on my 4-16 FFP PST, and it works flawlessly. I may be selling it soon, only to get the Razor HD. Vortex is worth every penny !!!

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE

Thanks for the replys guys. I did call Vortex last night and Maureen sent me another return shipping label, so back to Vortex it goes. I hate to be a PIA, but the ring slop just didn't seem right.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE II

Got my scope back from Vortex yesterday and found out they replaced the entire scope. In light of the fact that I purchased the scope used, this is the best outcome I could have hoped for. Vortex cusotmer service was exceptional and very easy to contact and work with. No hassles, no BS. Thank you Vortex!

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE II

That's good to hear that Vortex stands behind their product. I've been interested in purchasing one of their optics, this make me more apt to do so.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE II

Well, guys , I have been thinking on purchasing a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 and now , after reading how Vortex customer service is and the way they take care of their customers, it is a sure thing .

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue UPDATE II

If the QC was as good as the service, Maybe everyone on this thread would not of had to send their scopes back, some multiple times.

I have a pair of Vortex Bino's that cost $890... LOVE the glass but the focus has issues, making them almost unusable. They have Upgraded to newer HD Bino's and told me I would likely have to pay a couple hundred to Upgrade mine as parts were not available. I won't mention the Crossfire scope I threw under the bench.

With the Quality of the Glass, and the willingness to Listen to the shooters, Vortex has the makings to be great... But the QC is Lacking. Hopefully its growing pains. For now, $1000 on 2 units I can't use is all I can afford to donate.

Re: Whew, its not me. Vortex issue

No matter what you buy, rifle scopes, TVs, cars, etc, there is always going to be a cost to quality ratio. If you expect a $800 pair of Vortex binos to perform and hold up the same as a $2000 pair of Steiner's or Leica's you will always be disappointed. Even if you do shell out the $2000 there is still no guarantee that the product won't break to use and age. In either case, all you can do is hope that the company is going to stand behind their product and take care of you in the end.
