If you were going to get ONE nice 1911 with a price point of $2500 or less, what would you get? Nighthawk? Wilson? STI? Im leaning towards a double stack STI, but not sure which one is a good "all around" weapon. Pistol would never be used for concealed carry. Mostly range gun, and tactical comp gun....maybe car gun.

Re: which 1911?

oh man, get ready for a few pages of everybodies favorites. Nighthawks are great, but only if you get a naked slide because their names and rollmarks are pretty rediculous. You need it ASAP or can you wait? Call George at Michigan gunslingers and order a Wilson CQB however you want it. For a couple hundred less than your mentioned 2500. You really can't go wrong with one.

SVs are awesome, but take nearly a year to get at nearly twice the budget.

I'd vote for something custom from a good local smith.

Re: which 1911?

Ive both owned and been a dealer for most every big name out there. I can recommend none higher than Wilson Combat for esthetics, functioning, quality control & testing before ship, and most of all- service after the sale. Just like match barrels all let a squeaker got out now and again but the service I have seen from WC (and the absence thereof from a lot of the others) keeps them always in stock in my shop and safe- August
