Thinking of getting a .223 bolt action to play around with...the ammo that I have access to is 77 grain Black Hills and a ton of 55 grain fmj and soft points..

What do you think...not looking to break the bank. I'm asking cuz I've read different things about the 700's twist rate that aren't too favorable for 223...

Tried the search and didn't find what m looking for...

Re: Which .223 bolt action

will also put in a vote for tikka but the factory mag sucks and will be short for the 77's

CDI makes a DBM but it all adds up

there is a savage in a B+C stock in the for sale section that would be a good value

Re: Which .223 bolt action

+1 for the tikka. just bought the varmint model in 223 saturday, i've been eying it up for months and as soon as i heard they discontinued importing them i drove down and bought it.

Re: Which .223 bolt action

I have a savage and some semi autos, they have all been good performers. Savage was the go to cheapish gun for me in regards to out of the box accuracy. But my next one will be a Tikka for a ready to go gun, nice action and I like the trigger. Ya, if you do go longer vld's then you may have to single feed but thats not too bad.

Re: Which .223 bolt action

Thanks for the replies so far...so what's the deal with the 700? Can anyone confirm the accuracy issues with the barrel twist or tell me what ammo is needed to optimize the performance. I originally had my heart set in one because it would be the little sister to my 308...

Savage is tempting, I'll keep that in mind...
