I am purchasing two omegas to take advantage of the Capitol Armory special and trying to decide which handgun cans. Right now I’m leaning two Octane 45k for use on 9 and 45s. Glocks and 1911s.

I’ve read a few reviews that say you won’t notice the difference with the shorter can and a few where people are adamantly against the shorter cans.

I like the idea of a shorter, lighter can but if the sound difference is enough I can get the regular versions of a 9 and 45. Anyone have both?

Thanks.

I have the Omega 9k and a Liberty Mystic 9X, which is a monocore, full length 9mm can that actually works pretty well. The Omega 9k is a bit louder but not enough so that I'd prefer the longer one. Suppressors are all about compromise and in this case, I'm good compromising a little efficiency for a reduction in size. I don't like long cans, especially on short weapons. So for the G26 this thing is awesome and it's good on the G17 also. Cycles well and suppresses well enough.

If you already have long pistol cans, get the Omega k. You may find you're like me and prefer the shorter size over suppression for most use. Especially with small hosts.

I'd really like to take advantage of the buy one, get one free sale Sico is running right now, but it's gonna be tight if I'm able to pull it off. And it'll put other things on hold longer. I'd like that Maxim 9 and if the LGS still has it for a good deal I may do it, or if they have a Saker 556 for a good price, in which case I'd have to choose between the Octane and Omega k. I'd probably go with the Octane 9 and maybe use the Mystic for an "integral" type .300BLK or 9mm SBR some day.

OP, I am going to go with the Octane 45 (non-k) myself. I have 2 other modular 45 cans with short ability so I'll just go with longer size for max noise reduction.

The free can choices are the Octane 9, 45, and 45k. No option for free Omega 9k in the promo.

I was about to buy another scope when this special popped up, I had to change priorities lol. I do not have any pistol cans, nor used one unfortunately, just my one Ultra 7. I saw this as an opportunity to get setup with suppressors for all my present needs and to finally add some people to my trust when they clear.

If you didn’t have your modular 45 cans already would you get a shorter one again? Here is a pic comparing the sizes, quite a difference, even to the Octane 9 regular model. Octane 45K is on top.

That's a tough question. If I was getting my first pistol can I'd be weighing going with a short one knowing that it may not suppress up to my expectations vs going with a long one that may be pretty bulky or weighty at the end of the barrel. If using mostly only pistols I would likely have gone with the short version but I really am glad I didn't have to make that choice and that the modular options were available.

At present I'm re-considering getting the Maxim and a free octane, just not seeing the octane as a great deal since it really costs ~$400 for stamp/taxes/transfer free. And the Maxim at $800 is a good price but probably not as good a setup, other than in overall length, as a Q4 Tac with a TiRant 9m on it.

I won’t be using the Octane K on anything but pistol calibers. I ordered some omegas for the ARs. I think I would enjoy shooting a shorter can especially if the wife is shooting too. Less fatigue from the weight addition.

Thanks for the feedback. I think it will be worth the extra sound to be shorter and easier to handle. I see myself getting a different can down the road anyway, so I could add a full size of it becomes an issue.

I'm late to this thread but just had this debate with myself last week. It comes down to what do you already have? In my case I already have a long, heavy pistol can that sounds great, but it's plenty beefy. I signed up for the 45K knowing it will be a bit louder but also more manageable in size.

I may have missed it, but do you have any other pistol suppressors?

Thanks for the reply! I do not have any other pistol cans. I’m thinking I’ll do the Octane 45 and 9 full size and down the road get a shorter or modular can. The decibel difference is quite a bit. Though the smaller can sounds nice.

My totally unsolicited opinon:

Skip the 9mm and get the full size 45 AND the 45K. My experience has been 9mm out of a 45 can sounds the same (to me) as a 9mm out of a 9mm can.

If you got the full size 45 AND the 45K you would have a full size can for both 9mm/45 as well as the shorter option that can also go 9mm/45.

You'd have to decide if the extra versatility of having the full size 45 is worth the slightly degraded performance of shooting a 9mm through a 45 can (as opposed to 9mm through a 9mm can).

I did consider that, but just looking at the DB the 9 is at 127, where the 45 is at 130.4 which isn’t bad but then you go to 135.8 with the K model. Those numbers are all 9mm and what their website lists at.

Is it that unnoticeable to the ear? Should be around 2.5x the noise level from just the full size 9 to the full size 45.

I haven't shot that particular model, but I've shot other .45 & 9 cans side-by-side and I personally can't tell a terribly noticeable difference when moving between hosts. Lots of variables though - host, ammo, position relative to the muzzle, air temp, humidity etc. Plus my hearing is less than perfect (like everybody else here I bet).

9mm through a 9mm can is going to be quieter than 9mm through a .45 can but it's a matter of which is more important to you:

1. The quietest 9mm experience possible
2. The most versatile can possible

It's a tough call, I just had to make it myself lol.
