Hi there,

i am going to buy my fist gun and i want a reay good one (pease no discussion abut that).
Under consideration are:

McMillan Tac 308

HS Precision HTR

GA Precision Fbi HRT

Please can you help me which are the advantages and disadvantages of each gun, and also tell me why?
Please do it in a way, tat a beginner is able to understand it.

Thanks, Andrew

If I had to choose only one out of these three, It would be the GAP HRT. Looks like and awesome rifle and I have never heard anything bad about GAP. Not to say that I've heard bad about the others, but GAP's reputation is second to none.

May I suggest an Accuracy International AE or AW. Just bought an AE from Mile High and it may well be the last precision rifle I buy, unless I want anothe caliber. The AE is around the same price bracket as the HRT(Less depending on options). With an AI, when you need a new barrel or want to switch calibers, just contact Mile High, AINA etc and order a new barrel. Slap it into a vise, unscrew the old, screw on the new(To torque spec), check head space and ur good to go. No need to be fitted to the action by a gunsmith.

Andrew,

Welcome to the hide. If we knew your AO then maybe there are members on here in your area that would be able to get up with you and help you out in a better way. You really need to get behind a couple of you examples and see if they even fit you. I think this is especially important when deciding to come to the dark side known as Accuracy International! The thumb hole is not for everyone. I personally love it.

There are a lot of very good guys on here willing to go the extra mile to help out. If you approach this site with a little humility and understand that there are individuals that use these tools for a living then you will be fine on here and in turn will get a lot more help.

Andrew,

How will you be using it?

Will you need NV?

What is your experience with firearms?

YOU would be best served if you put up some basic information about yourself. Experience, where you live, etc. My BEST advice is to get behind MULTIPLE rifles and see what fits YOU. I cant speak for the HTR, and that being said the other two are nice rifles. It will come down to how YOU will be using it and how it fits YOU.

So funny. I don't even own one yet and for your budget I would still say AI AE Mk III or maybe AW. One of these two is next on my list. I like factory/system rifles, especially to start out. GA Precision, Surgeon etc. would be then the next one(s) after.

This being said, let's assume all have equally reliable and accurate actions and barrels. I would say that how you feel and setup behind the rifle is number one. Figure out how you will be shooting (prone, bench, offhand) and see how they mount for you with optics. Then decide.

I shoot an AI and a Surgeon and like them both. GAP is also rock solid but I don't have one. If possible, get behind a similar version of each rifle and see which one feels "right" to you. Once you have made your choice, it will only get better with practice and proper technique. Good hunting!

I hear good things about the Sako TRG in this price range also. I don't know why it's not recommended more. But like I said...AI

I have a TRG22 and an AIAW both in 308. The best 5 shot 100 yard group I ever shot with it was 0.29 moa. Monday I shot 2 groups with my AIAW with a Bartlein barrel that were much better than any I ever shot with the TRG 22. One was 0.197 moa the other 0.179 iirc. I just believe the AIAW will shoot tighter groups on average than the TRG, at least for me. However I do like the TRG trigger better. but the down side for the AIAW is it costs a lot more than the TRG. So for 1/10th of an inch better group in my case I questioned wether the cost differential was worth it. My answer was yes it was. Both rifles have a nightForce NXS 8-32X56 scope on them. The TRG scope has an NP-R1 reticle, The AIAW scope the MOAR reticle

Hi,

thanks a lot for responding so much, and sorry for the long wait.
My aim is to start shooting at a 300 m range, later i want to increase the distance.
I felt in love with the GAP FBI HRT and the Tac 308, one of them or nothing!
What is the difference between the G 30 action and Templar Action?
Are there any reasons to decide for one of them?

Thx Andrew
