Which one?

Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50, Vortex Recon 15x50, Vortex Viper HD 15-45x65.

I can get all these scopes for +\- $100. They will be used for maximum at 500 yards, but I would say 75% of usage would be 200 yards and under. I know I've read that anything over 40x and you start to loose clarity. So for the price, which would be the best route to go?
I'm thinking the Razor HD because of its small size and HD glass.

The Razor will have the best optics of the 3.
Resolution trumps magnification in my experience.
I have the Razor HD 20-60x85 and they are clear all the way to 60x, despite what you've read or heard.
Lower end glass (with less resolution) will have a problem at higher magnifications, as with any magnified optic.
Get the best glass you can budget for.

Just ordered the vortex angled razor 11-33x50. I'm stoked!

I think you will be fine with either the Razor or the Viper. The Razor should have better resolution, but it will not perform as well in low light.

I ended up with the Razor 20-60x85 also. VERY nice.

The Recon is nice for the reticle, but you will probably find yourself wanting more magnification.
