Gunsmithing Which Stock Fits Rem 700

Re: Which Stock Fits Rem 700

I am going through the same decision and search right now for my Rem 700 SPS AAC-SD .308 and my Rem 700 SPS Varmint .223.

I tried the H-S police model ($335) but I found it to be too long for the 20-inch .308 barrel (didn't look right) and the handguard was a little wide for my liking. But I should have put it on my 26-inch varmint rifle and been satisfied. It wasn't too heavy for that use. Instead, I returned it to Midway. Now they're out of stock.

Next, I tried a B&C varmint/tactical for $465 but for that price it was WAY TOO heavy. Fit and form was nice, but I already have a pair of ton-guns. I can't find a B&C M40 or Medalist for varmint in stock anywhere. But I think that is what would do best for a medium priced stock.

I am having an $870 McMillan put on a custom .308 build so I want to keep these two stocks in the $250 to $300 range if possible. Probably will have to get a narrower channel stock and get someone to inlet it for me -- I know how to use a Dremel tool but I am deadly with it.

You might take a hard look at the H-S police/sniper ($335 at Midway) if you don't mind the stubby look.

I'll be watching this thread to see what you find.

Re: Which Stock Fits Rem 700

I just put a m40 on my aac-sd. I got it from shootersdiscount, but they look to be out of stock. Check gunbroker. There seems to be a few bell and Carlson stocks on there at normal price.

Re: Which Stock Fits Rem 700

I have the B&C A3 Light Tactical on my 700 AAC and am very happy with it. After putting on the B&C stock it's a consitant sub MOA gun and ususally shoots around 1/2 MOA when I don't screw everything up. My best group after putting it on was .363 but average groups are mid .6's when I actually shoot for groups and don't mess everything up. Can't beat that for a stock under $300!!! Hope this helps....
