Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Need someone who actually knows what they're talking about at Remington, and the place is like a city it's so hard to find someone. I want to talk to the smiths or technicians who deal in their mission-critical systems- I'm tired of getting the run around from their consumer-level support, who are absolutely clueless.

Anyone have a good contact?

Thanks,
BB

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Send me a PM and I will give you a contact. Been to the facility a few times at Armorers school. Very nice place to visit. I did see some M-24's in production, although I think demand for a long action 308 in limited in the civilian market, most were going to Uncle Sugar.

BTW I'm not sure they will share much information with you.

Schapman, I bet you work for Remington

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Hey guys, in the meantime while Glocker and I chat, do feel free to chime in with contacts you know. This might require a multi-prong approach here :), and the more probably the better.

Thanks,
BB

ROFL!!!! Sad but possibly true from some of the items that have come out of the regular shop lately. The Custom Shop guys seem to have a clue though which is where I think the M24's in question come from.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Not a damn thing to do with the OP....

I wonder why the Army has Remington build thier M24's and the Corps chooses to build thier own M40's?

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

If you are calling the customer service 800 # they are in North Carolina and don't know dick about anything. Call the factory in Ilion NY and ask for a Tom Nagel ...Don't know if he is still there since the Cerberus take over.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

I'm sort of a newb, but from my own experiences and research the M24 and M40 differ mainly in caliber. M24 takes the .300 Magnum round, where as the M40 uses the standard .308 round. If I'm not mistaken they both use the same HS-Precision stocks, but there may be other differences I'm not aware of... such as the M40 taking a different trigger set up, etc.

M40 has the McMillan A4 stock, uses a short action. The newest M40, the A5, has a Surefire QD flash hider for a suppressor and forward rail for mounting NOD/thermal equipment in front of the Schmidt and Bender PM3 3-12x42. The M24 uses a long action and an HS Precision stock. They use the long action because they can be rechambered in-case a mission needed something more powerful such as a 300 Win-Mag. Most use some variant of the Leupold Mk4 LR/T line of scopes.

Interesting, I thought alot of people into this hobby would have known that.

but yeah, they're all LA actions.

it's actually not because of .300WM, but back in the day, they were gonna use .30-06 but went with .308 instead. .300wm is something bit newer as far as idea goes.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Because snipers don't want to carry a 30lbs rifle and then the ammunition for it. And it's just overkill for anti-personnel unless it's rapid engagement at distances past about 800 meters.

same reason (well one of) why we went with .223 instead of .308 in the service rifles.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Sweet. Like was said on my rifle build post by someone, there is a wealth of information on this forum. I really like it. I have been in my own little world of handguns (XDm) and my M4 for the past few years. I have always wanted to get into the long distance thing, so glad I finally pulled the trigger on my 700. :-D

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

when the army started the M24 program it was chambered in 30-06 so it had to be a long action, then the found they didn't have enough match 30-06 stuff so the rifles were rebarreled in 7.62, it worked out because now there are rebarreling them to the 300 Win Mag.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

One thing that I would like to know is where Remington get the iron sight bases from and where can we get them at? Im sure it will be a hard question to answer but its worth a try. I know there are some places that sell them that are close but I dont want close I want the real thing.

The M24 has the Redfield Palma rear sight and Redfield International front sight. Redfield doesn't make them anymore, but you can usually find them on ebay.

I do as well. I have the sights, just not 100% on the bases as to which part numbers etc. to get. Champions shooters has a TON of the bases listed. so they are easy to find, just don't know exactly which one either... anyone?

That information can be found in the M24 build thread

OK Weber. Check out the M24 build thread. Front iron sight base is part .325D under dovetail bases. The rear base you can get if you call it in. It was a month or so ago when i picked it up, but he had some left.

Thanks Clarence thats the info that I was looking for was the item number for those bases. Im not interested in the actual sights themselves right now maybe later. Can you show a picture of the rear base? I have seen that there are two different types of bases used on the M24 just curious as to what one you got. I have been on the M24 build thread and there is a lot of info on that thread. I just wanted a part number for those two items. Thanks

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Sure thing. Just give OK Weber a call and ask for parts number-
Rear base ok-R 615
Front base ok-R 616

These are the part numbers for the bases. (Size of front base is .325D) To see a pic, go to page 8 of the M24 build thread and look at EODsix's pics. The one with the scope ring cut out is the current one, and the one OK sells.

Re: Who at Remington builds the M24s?

Ok I looked at EOPsix pics and he shows two different ones. The one Im hoping it is the one that looks like a rectangle and that the other one. But if it is then oh well thats what Ill have to go with.

Maybe the sights themselves are Trakker, but i'm pretty sure the bases are still OK Weber. The iron sights themselves are the only parts I don't have just yet and honestly haven't researched. Buuut, i'll find out soon lol.
