Gunsmithing Who does full inletting on a stock blank?

Picking up a McMillan A5 locally that has no work done to it. I want to have it inletted for a R700 action with bottom metal (either PTG or CDI) and I was wondering who can do the work. I could send it back to McMillan but my understanding is there is usually a pretty good wait time with them.

Any suggestions on a smith that can turn this around pretty quick for me?

There's a user on here (jducos) that people call The Stock Doc. It may be worth shooting him a PM.

Alternatively, I want to say that I have seen Chad from LRI make reference to using a CNC mill to inlet stocks... he may have a library of inlets that'll get you where you want to go.

I believe Phoenix Custom Rifles can do it. Their turnaround is usually pretty fast.

I had McMillan do one years ago and it did not take as long as they had quoted me.

Fully CAD modeled. 3D 4 axis surface machined. 1:1 for a direct fit or +.05" for bedding. Your choice. Been at this over 13 years now.

I can, but there's stuff that we just don't get much calling for. Ruger MK77's would be one of them. Not that there's anything wrong with them or anything. One of the first bolt guns I ever owned was a Ruger tgt MK77. Once I stabbed a new barrel on it, the rifle shot really well.

That said its just not something I've gone after aggressively. For starters that damn caddy womp front guard screw is a little A hole when trying to bed one nicely. Sucks trying to make that work.

Can you guys also supply the uninletted stock for a job like this? I have a hunting rifle built on a Borden action that I'd like to completely re-stock in a Manners EH1/A.

Yes we can. I have a big ol pile of stuff on orders with Manners right now. They aren't here yet, but its an order placed several months ago so it shouldn't be too much longer.

I have had one in 30-06 for years and have never quite been happy with the way it shoots. I've debated between just getting rid of it and upgrading the stock and barrel. I've upgraded the trigger and it was my first hunting rifle, so I hate to just sell it. I just haven't quite decided if it would be worth the money to me to upgrade it.

I feel like there are just much better actions to build on than the ruger. Not saying you can’t make a ruger nice, but too many better options out there.
