Hey guys,

This might seem like a strange question but in Australia we don't have this brand and was wondering what they are like, what they are equivalent to and what do you think of them?

Cheers,
Josh

They are a company that sells optics and other shooting related equipment.

They also purchased Tasco Super Sniper brand, not sure if all of Tasco or just the rights to the one optic line. They took that optic and made it better and into what you now see as the SWFA Super Sniper optic and subsequent models. I don't know the ITAR restrictions on those optics, but you could call them and find out if they will export.

They are a great entry level optic. The newer models, I don't have experience with, but I am sure others will chime in. I'm sure there is back ground info if mine is incorrect on their site.

Yeah I just checked out and for $1499 wanna be a good scope, seems like it would wanna be something spectacular competing with vx6 leupolds and the like

SWFA is a local company to me. I have been using them to buy and sell scopes for about 3 years now. My personal experiences with them have all been 100% positive and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a scope but more importantly anyone looking to trade a scope in. As for their line of scopes, I have personal experience with their fixed power SS line and IMO you cant get a better scope for $300. Their higher end lines I don't have any experience with, just what I've read and heard which has seemed to be mostly positive.

Josh, the SWFA SS scopes are sourced from Japan. The higher end "HD" models are made at LOW and compare well to the top of the line Bushnell and Weaver scopes. The lower price models are made at a different factory in Japan, and are among the best values for their prices, though obviously not $1k+ scopes.
Others, too many reviews of SS scopes here to list. I own several, all of them have been great scopes for the price paid. The high end models are competitive with anything else in their price range, though that might (???) change when the Steiner T5 is on the market, depending on its final selling price and quality level.

I have one of there new 10X side focus MRAD scopes. And I must say for the $ it is next to impossible to beat. I had on of the original 10X side focus mill dot scopes and the newer ones are much better. I only have two complaints. One the scope comes with no instructions. Not a single piece of paper in the box. I would be nice to have some explanation for these high tech reticles. If you call them they will email you the instructions. Pretty sad that when you are paying $400 for a scope they cant print them off and put them in a box. In the days of lap tops and no printers it is a pain in the but. My second complaint is do not believe the ratings and feedback left on there sight, I know for a fact if you give a less than 5 star review it will not make it on the web sight. So only trust the reviews of others on great sights like this! That all said. They sell a great scope, and have great prices. Just my 2cent

Ok so the SS range is what I was looking at, upgrading to something with more then 3-9x on my 300WM for LR shooting. Your saying the SWFA scopes are bushnell, does that mean that the millett scopes are the same quality? Cause they are $550 delivered to Australia with rings for the LRS-1 model

I have no experience with Millett scopes, but would be surprised if any of them are in the same category as the SS-HD models. Also, I'm not saying that any SS scopes are Bushnell, only that some of them (only the 5-20x50, 1-6x, 1-4x, and 3-9x42) are made in a factory where some high-end Bushnell scopes are also made.

I personally have the 20x42 ss fixed. Def a fan of the mil quad reticle for now, but plan on upgrading to something really nice vs middle of the road for my next optic purchase. For 300$, it was probably One of the best optics for the money. Subtensions all work well considering line thickness, but the open diamonds make holdovers easy. Wish I had saved for an HD model though. The glass is clear enough, with minor mirage on far edges on hot days, and the mil/mil is awesome at longer ranges with great return to zero and positive clicks. Box drill was right on point and has held zero well into a couple hundred rounds of .308 with 168 and 175gr SMKs. The 16x fixed doesn't show it as bad, but I can also see my holes on 300yd paper without a spotting scope with my 20x on a good day. Great product and worth the money IMHO.

I have the 3-15 and luv it. Can't beat the features and optical quality for the price point imo. FYI twice a year they have 20% off sales, the next one is black Friday. On the last sale day the 3-15 wasn't reduced. I emailed them and asked if I could get 20% off on a demo model. They sent me a brand new in the box imo, for 20% off. Excellent service and great product.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a quick question about the 10x42. I'm looking at THIS one for a budget, entry level scope with good tracking and whatnot. The reticle is in Mil and the turrets are .1 Mil, so this scope is a Mil/Mil scope right? The reason I ask, is because I heard that they were Mil/MOA. Maybe that was an earlier version?

I have a 5-20x50 HD version. Love it. Much clearer than my Leupold 6.5-20 VX-III LR. FFP is really nice, but I have yet to shoot it on less than full power, and only then at a range. I plan on swapping it to my hunting rifle for a deer hunt in October.
