A friend of mine works at a local gun store. Ive been wanting to get an optic for my M4 Bushy. We were talking about Eotech vs Aimpoint etc. He told me that Eotech was made by Bushnell. The Bushnells dont have the metal shrowd around them, but are the same optical quality. Is he full of shit???

Re: Who makes Eotec???

I don't know if bushnell makes them, but they are the same basic design and bushnell marketed it first (perhaps a third party designer?). I'm not saying they are the same, there are many differences and design iterations.

Bushnell = hobby line

Eotech = pro line

you would be correct, i have never seen an Eotech without the metal shroud around it. Your buddy is full of shit.

here is Eotechs website and you will notice the L3 logo up in the top left of the webpage.

Re: Who makes Eotec???

Which model Eotech would be good for my M4. I just shoot paper and sometimes fuzzy things that wonder into the yard. My life doesnt depend on my optics but I dont really want a cheap piece of crap either.

Re: Who makes Eotec???

I stand corrected then if he said it the other way around. But I have always heard of one being made by one other or at least shared most of the same parts.

Re: Who makes Eotec???

To be honest I didn't think they were associated at all till I read your article. I hate to get off on a technicality! You were actually more right then me!

Re: Who makes Eotec???

Does Bushnell actually manufacture anything? If so, where is their factory located? Same goes for EoTech!

I suspect that Bushnell's optical products are manufactured by various facilities located in different Asian countries and are made by these factories to Bushnell's specs at certain price points, much like most of the "specialty" electronic equipment that's on the market. I also suspect that EoTech's lineup is manufactured at the same factory that makes Bushnell's version of the holosight, but produced to EoTech's specs.

I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the currently available Asian built optics actually come out of some of the same factories that may build products for their competitors, albeit on a different production run.

And I know for sure that this is the way it's done in China at the present time with the proliferation of their low priced low quality knockoffs that have been flooding the market.

Re: Who makes Eotec???

some of those low priced knock offs are not so low quality. there are companiers like utg that started out makin airsoft components. today many people are runnin sights an such on their real weapons. i have observed several knock off leupold mark 4 m1 for a few years. still repeating, and no failures. so when it comes down to it, who made who?

Re: Who makes Eotec???

Bushnell does not make the Holosight, it is made by eotech for bushnell under license. The only way holosights differ from a Eotech is that they do not have the armour. Other than that, they are one in the same.

Just in the event someone wanted to know a little more!</div></div>

Thanks for the heads up on the EoTech/Bushnell question. I'm glad to hear that we still make something here in the USA

and that my suspicions about where EoTech is manufactured were wrong.

I'd recco an Aimpoint, any model, before any Eotech, if your gonna spend that kind of $$ and may use it for home defense, you can leave it on for 2 years and still have a dot.

If you just want a sight to play around with, buy the Holosite and spend what you save on ammo.

This guy has never owned anything but Aimpoint if he thinks any aimpoint is better! What about the four hour lasting scope size aimpoint from fifteen years ago? EoTech is by far better for heads up than aimpoint but they both are good! I like EoTech over aimpoint and this coversation could lead to another twenty page thread!

Re: Who makes Eotec???

I know the carbine classes I go to have had Eotec problems every time, the Aimpoints always work. I'm not saying Aimpoints never have problems, but I've never seen it happen.

And the earlier poster was correct, I have never owned an Eotech, but have shot many of them, and when they work, they are fine; but I have seen many quit on the firing line from battery problems, and don't know how many times I have heard the "OH ****" when the stupid things have turned themselves off and a course of fire was started.

How could anyone design a sight, designed for self defense, that would turn itself off without the user doing so???

Just my opinion, and you know what that's worth!

Re: Who makes Eotec???

I don't think Bushnell (or Eotech, if you prefer) is making the holosight anymore. You can probably still find 'em in stock from various retailers. But, I think the holosight has been discontinued.

Re: Who makes Eotec???

I believe that Eotech is currently one of the L3 companies. They are involved in all kinds of high-end optical and communications products/functions/services.
